I was trying to get the "feeling" of railfanning Carvel with this shot. I had been looking at RR books and CTC Board magazine (Remember that?) and I noticed that the photos that most intrigued me were those that incorporated a sense of place. For those that know the area, did I succeed?
Oh, by the way, this is the coal train returning to the mines at Coal Valley (from Thunder Bay). The suspected phosphate train can be seen on the north track, over the coal gondolas.

  1. I would say so, Steve! Great shot.

  2. CTC Board is/was a showcase of the finest photography out there. This is definitely worthy.

  3. I would absolutely agree that this is CTC Board worthy.

For what its worth I still have every dog-eared copy of that magazine I ever owned.

  4. Me as well, Matt. Never toss any magazine… great time capsules.

  5. Thank you, folks.
My CTC Boards, starting in about 86′ are stored in magazine boxes on my bookshelf too. In the early days, it was a red letter day when a new addition arrived in the mailbox.
It was so revolutionary in a time of Trains, Railfan and Extra 2200 South
