...conjures the raw mysterious lands and waters of the Gitche Gumee...the ancestral and ancient lands of the Ojibway and their predecessors...
...and imagine my surprise – during the Lake Superior circle tour - after driving that Tremblay Flats Road down to the Michipicoten Harbour, to find an ACR train, with three Geeps, ready to load up raw material for the (surprise – even at that time - operating ! ) Wawa Sinter Plant.

PPS: that old rail dock in the foreground demonstrates the power of Lake Superior shoreline spring ice flows. Compare the remains of the dock in this image with Arnold's 1998 image.
What's interesting:
Sinter plants agglomerate iron ore fines (dust) with other fine materials at high temperature, to create a product that can be used in a blast furnace. The final product, a sinter, is a small, irregular nodule of iron mixed with small amounts of other minerals. (Wikipedia)
The sinter (processed iron ore & other material) from the Sinter (Wawa )plant was all shipped by rail to the Algoma Steel mill in Sault Ste. Marie.

This very interesting observation certainly kindles the thoughts of checking out the area once again now that the plant has been closed almost 20 years.
Sun angles made that location very difficult to shoot at. This is a great effort !
Excellent view. Right in my target era for modeling this area.
