On March break back in 1999 we caught CP 521 rolling through CN Bayview Jct. on the way to Toronto. Brother Greg must have been there because all the locomotive numbers were recorded, and I'm impressed that I managed to squeeze them all onto the slide mount. From front to back we have CP 5611, 5689, 5697, 5682, 5596, 5506, 5670 and 5608. It looks like they're all in CP action red with the exception of 5596 that is in CP Rail System paint.

  1. Oh. My. God.

I saw this a few times, didn’t get many on camera and most of my shots are crap… but one night in ’03 I was at Burlington West on a summer evening with the usual Friday night goonery – we’re watching all the CN and VIA action go by while 166 is parked at Burlington Station waiting for all the traffic to go by, these trains never got priority.. and as usual, it had 6 SD40-2′s…

After dark, and 3 hours after they arrived they get their light, and the sound of all 6 notch up and get to speed, I didn’t think a freight could accelerate that fast.. awesome.

I chased that dragon for quite a while and now my chances of seeing 6 together on this side of the border are nearly none. Altoona was good for a show if you got enough helpers together.. but 6…

Nice work. I’m sure this sounded just as good!

  2. Excellent catch Rob!
