One thing we may rarely see again coming down the Hamilton Sub from Guelph Jct is a solid grain train. It is still possible. But it sure cannot be led by all-SOO power!!! This image of the southbound coming up to the Parkdale Dr crossing in Waterdown is just that........SOO 6411, 779 and 6013. The old passenger station is still standing within this Opta Minerals complex here(previously Barnes). It is currently used as the company office.

  1. Out of that trio, I think you have the best leader. :-)

  2. Beautiful photo Arnold! Thought this was taken in the Niagara region with all that SOO power leading.

  3. Beautiful shot Arnold! Looking at Google maps, I believe that road in the foreground is gone, however the red historical piece of machinery on the right still sits there. Also worth noting that CP still, very rarely, runs unit grain trains down the Hamilton Sub, caught at Vinemount by James Knott earlier this year: http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=37131

  4. Nice photo – I photographed here (before the driveway was re-located and property fenced in) in 2003… my shots are on Film and probably not all that great – but had a SOO leader!

  5. I am sure out of the loop. Takes you guys to tell me that road isn’t there any more. :o )

  6. LOL. They re-routed the road around those ‘bushes’ at right basically, straight to Parkdale Drive instead of following the tracks on the curve. Now it’s greenspace (grass) beside the tracks with a couple large stones.

What I’d like to know is if “barnes” (or Compass Minerals as they are now known) gets any cars – I don’t think they do anymore..

  7. Steve, I don’t believe they do anymore either. I’ve asked a pretty credible source to confirm :)
