Private Pullman car Babbling Brook brings up the rear of Amtrak/VIA 97 as it departs Toronto for New York. This car was built by Budd in 1949 for the New York Central Railroad's eastern passenger teains. Babbling Brook soon traversed the very rails pictured above as it became part of the Canadian Pacific Railway fleet under the name Seaview in 1959 for use on the Montreal - Ottawa - Toronto Pool Train, jointly operated by the CNR and CPR. The car was again sold in 1969 to the Cartier Railway, losing it's name for the number 847 and working in the far northern reaches of Quebec. Kasten Railcar Services Inc. purchased the car in 1986 and after making repairs and upgrades the car was sent through various owners to get where it is today; owned by John Webb III and rolling throughout North America.

  1. Very interesting caption on this old car with equally nice photo. Thanks for your research. :-)

  2. Great shot in a familiar old spot. Really nice, Jacob. But OMG!! The condos!! Is there any place in that big over-run city that they are not building condos!!!??? Unreal.

  3. Thank you gents. Arnold, I hate those condos, heck the people who bought condos in their early years for a lakeview apartment now have condos in front of them. You can’t see the water until you’re nearly on it! But I’m here for 4 years with university, so I gotta get used to it.

  4. Good shot Jacob. Best of luck at Rye High!

  5. Thanks Joe!

  6. Jacob, Babbling Brook adds such a nice taste to the Maple Leaf. There is something special about “silver” passenger cars, and Babbling Brook looks right at home on the tail end #97. Thanks for the very nice picture and the car history.
