The 20th (Or 21st - debatable right now) Annual C-N-R/C-P-R Bayview meet is on Saturday June 20th 2015. All are welcome - we had a record turnout last year - this year could be even better. Come meet many of those who contribute to Railpictures.ca plus many others. For those who are new - there are washrooms on-site, food is only a couple KM in either direction and parking is free. A very safe place to watch trains. If you are bringing family, such as a spouse, or your parents, they may enjoy the adjacent RBG Laking/Spring Gardens (Admission is required if you wish to enter the RBG, otherwise standing on the bridge is free).Event begins at dawn, and continues to supper time, where a group often heads to a local restaurant for food. The hardiest of railfans used to do 24 hours but it's been a few years since these young men have been up to the challenge :)
People come from far and wide - if you do come, make SURE you sign the guestbook, or else we don't have you counted for the recordbooks.
Pictured above is an eastbound passing the gaggle of cameras from the 2014 meetup. See many of you there.

  1. I remember seeing that specific train, unfortunately I wasn’t at the meet. It was CN 422, as I had seen it at Jordan. 331 also had an NS unit that day. It’s too bad this upcoming meet won’t be accompanied by a joyous amount of foreign power.

  2. It is a good thing all those ‘wild animals’ are fenced !!! :o )

  3. How many people are usually here?

  4. Last year it was over 50 – keep in mind that’s the entire day.

  5. I started the debate :D

  6. Since I cannot not stay for the whole day whats the best range of times. I was thinking 8-3?

  7. As of June 2015 – this is generally how traffic is:

Best range for photography is 0615 (first light hitting the rails) to 1000, and 1700 to sunset. There is a certain minimum of guaranteed trains during these times (CN 422, 331, 70, 97, 71, and on CP 143/2 and 246/7 are usually around in the morning – 142 and 247 will get pushers too)

Things die down about noon – 331 will depart around 1100-1200, a couple VIA’s, and it picks up again in the late afternoon you have 330/399/149/435 plus on CP 254 and 255 – 255 may get pushers too.

The wildcard is anything coming from Sarnia or beyond or ordered and running late out of mac yard which can vary, as well as any Ethanols on CP (usually about two per week) and finally, locals.

To get CP and 330/331 you have to go to Hamilton West (about 1 KM down York Rd) where the Cowpath and CP are side by side.

Best advice: show up at 0615, you won’t regret it, if you can’t come that early, arrive BEFORE or at 0830. Any later you’ll miss a ton of traffic and by then you’ve probably missed a pair of CP’s and any Sarnia CN’s that show up early. The light is worth it to bag anything eastbound at 0615-0800 – it’s just brilliant.

Hope this helps anyone planning to visit. Bring a lawnchair too.

  8. For what it is worth:

This morning, if you arrived at 0615 you missed probably one train (421 was by before 0600)

If you arrived by 0700 you missed four trains

If you arrived by 0800 you missed six trains, with about four to six more to come between 0800 and 1100 (The last train will probably be Train 331 at 1100 or so). This includes CP on the Hamilton sub and ignores GO trains out of Hamilton.

Roll the dice as you will but I always say 0800 is dangerous, you can miss a lot :)

  9. How many of those trains were CN before 8:30?

  10. About three.

  11. Do most people go to Bayview or the Cow Path?

  12. Laking Garden footbridge. See the point on the map in this photo, that’s exactly where you are to go.

  13. A reminder: The 2016 C-N-R/C-P-R (aka CNET) Bayview meet is on June 18 2016. All other details are the same as in prior years – see comments below for further details.

Make sure you come out to meet fellow railpictures.ca contributors.

CN traffic this year is about the same as last year, instead of 330/331 we have 524/523 in the early to mid morning and lately there are a couple westbounds between 0600 and 0800. Get there really early if you want to get the ‘worm’!

For 2016 CP runs trains approximately at these times:

    246/7 0900 approx
    143 0400-0700 approx

142 at last light in the late afternoon

    254/255 mid afternoon.

    Hope to see everyone there!

And for those who don’t know: C-N-R and C-P-R are yahoo groups (groups.yahoo.com) that i’d encourage young railfans to join. You can also join FPON yahoo group for timely sightings of hot trains. These groups work over e-mail so you can have the information sent to your phone in a timely manner.

Yahoo groups was once known as C-NET and as a result this was the CNET meet. The first meet was in 1996 or 1995.

  14. Oh you crazy kids!

  15. I am going to show up. Hopefully some old CN Widecabs and Std cabs appear like SD50AFs, GP40-2LWs and any kind of SD40!

  16. And let’s hope ngineered4u is going to drive one lol

  17. Yes you should show up. I am sure it will be a great day! Alas, I will not be there, nor will I be working. I will be on holidays. Happy photographing!

  18. Do we sign the guest book when we get there or do we do it online?

  19. It’s a guest book. So you sign it using a pen. :)

  20. Hi Folks – the 2017 Bayview meet is on June 24 2017. Anyone have a photo from a prior meet? I’ll make it the main page feature for the next few weeks if you can – this one is it for now :)

  21. Hopefully this year I will be able to join you, but instead of being behind the throttle I will be behind the lens :-)

  22. Hi all, the 2022 C-N-R/C-P-R (Cnet) meet is on Saturday June 25. Same as in all prior years except the traffic is much different this time :) Busier, since all day GO service has arrived.

There’s now a tim hortons just down the road (walkable to the east) which opened a few years ago.

Bring sunscreen, wear your best Hawaiian Shirt and see you there.

Here’s the oldest message I can find that refers to the CNET meet at Bayview

    https://groups.io/g/C-P-R/message/3709?p=%2C%2C%2C20%2C0%2C0%2C0%3A%3Acreated%2C0%2Cbayview%2C20%2C2%2C120%2C15578736

Started in 1995, it was on the CNET list (this list ended in 1999 when merged with egroups). The meet morphed over to C-N-R and C-P-R lists, and here.. and anyone is welcome :)

People will be there all day but if you want to meet the most people show up in the morning. This is an unorganized gathering, you’re responsible for feeding yourself, washrooms, etc (the nearby RBG Laking Garden will be open and should have open washrooms during RBG hours however).

  23. I heard from one source that nobody was there.

  24. June 25 is next saturday

  25. OOPS I goofed

  26. These things happen. Hope to see a ton of people Saturday!
