Caption: Things were a little slow during the strike, so a sunny day brought me to locales I tend to otherwise not frequent. After a couple quick catches closer to home, shooting TH21 in Hamilton and 148 in Copetown, I ventured up to Cambridge where I shot T72 and T97, then it was off to Kitchener where there was word of four 4-axle units on 568. Here, rolling through Kitchener West, they had just begun their journey west to Stratford after working Kitchener yard for a bit. I chased them there and got some shots of them working both ends of the yard in Stratford. 2434 (trailing in fourth in this shot) led on the return trip east, and was one of the more sickly sounding units I've ever heard. With the barns going into storage, I partly wonder if it's the last time I'll ever see one on point for CN. Shots of it to follow one day, I am sure.

I found the same thing here this summer with the barns. I don’t think they are receiving much TLC anymore. I like the 2 SD’s up front. IMO why fart around if you’re going bulge rads, make them big like this.
Very nice, James.
Very nice James. And in my ‘former’ hometown. That’s a lot of power for 568! How many cars approx?
Thanks guys.
Kevin, the power was kicking around from a previous day’s 533. They ran to Stratford as 568 on this day and rounded up traffic there (incl. RLK 4001) and went directly to Mac I believe. Not sure how many cars they were on this day; but a good size. A couple others from this site were out and perhaps they remember.
That power had been in town for a few days when we found it on the weekend, in some form or another during the strike. Of course the Kitchener operations were not on strike due to a different internal shortline agreement (GEXR). So this power was utilized from time to time instead of the 4 axles. This day the train was 75 cars so they probably wanted the extra power to get out of Kitchener as there’s a good westbound ruling grade that can stall the 4 axle power when things go wrong.
I highly doubt they ran from Kitchener to Stratford to Toronto but it’s certainly possible, as long as they didn’t go back west upon arrival at Toronto.
James there are a few cowl Dash 8′s roaming around on CN still…. not sure for how much longer but you still have time if the rumours are led to be believed.
