This is one healthy looking eastbound freight, as seen from up in the old Canada Crushed Stone Conveyor that used to stand over the CN main line at Mile 4.(This structure was dismantled in 1986) Four GP40-2(W) locos, the pride of the roster back then, CN 9609, 9584, 9548 and 9603 have a train that stretches past the old Dundas station and well up the line past the Mile 5 marker. My notes indicated a car count of 127. On the left can be seen the connection to the lower CCSL and Steetley dolomite property (removed in Oct '85) and on the right in the brush one can see where track went up to the CCSL loading area.

  1. Love that you can see most of the train in this photo. It’s good having a reminder that CN running behemoth manifests is nothing new, just that’s it’s more common now.

    I spot one of those elusive Sclair hoppers passing the Dundas station. There’s still a few around, but they’re very hard to find.

  2. Sclair? Right in front of the station? You’re right. What a hawk-eye!!! :o ) The orange is visible.

  3. Another great shot AW! You sure know how to bring up great memories for me mister. The good old day before dynamic braking when you power braked the train down Copetown Hill. I miss those days.
    Daniel, the trains back then were definitely shorter, long train were not normal then and they certainly were not nearly as heavy back then. 7000-8000ft was considered big.
