Well, Bill, your spidy senses must have been tingling knowing someone was in Goderich.. and here was the scene on Sunday as 581 finishes pulling 15 loads up the hill. Behind the train are the empties, 18 for the salt mine and 1 for Broadgrain. We do a family/friends trip camping somewhere each summer and this year was Aburn Ontario.. after looking up where it was... I made sure to bring my camera and take my chances at something running, it's been a few years since I've been to town.

  1. Anyone know if there is a third unit assigned to GEXR? I didn’t see one.. zilch parked in the yard or Stratford otherwise, either one’s in that shop or they only have 2 units.

  2. Ones likely in the shop. Should be 2073 inside since you shot 4095/2117.

  3. Tx.

  4. Nice scene Steve. There’s less weeds up there along the tracks compared to the Guelph Sub!

  5. Or the Chatham Sub for that matter too @Noe…will CN ever do a clean up along their lines? Hopefully one day soon lol. Steve…this would have made for an excellent time machine photo to Bill Thomsons shot. Shows a lot of change with 17 years. Great catch with the train…couldn’t ask for better timing!

  6. Notice the differences in station… work has been done to it by new owners

Problem for a station shot with a train is the cars are in the way… either the outbound or inbound salt cars and the curve makes it much worse. They were blocking station for this shot so i chose further east.

Unless a train arrives light power…. which will be rare

  7. Also comparing to Bill’s shot from 2001:

There are two tracks that show east of the 4 in my photo above, the switch seems to still be there, but are the tracks there and/or in service? I think they may still be there but my photo indicates weed covered

I will have to pay attention next time I go. There doesn’t seem to have been many changes in a long time up that way track wise. Thanks all! Great discussion

  8. 581 is two orange units today I hear

  9. Good. I can get orange next time. Other than plows (probably a half dozen) I never did get older GEXR there in Goderich in sun so this is perfect for me.
