Trains stalling on the grade up the Niagara Escarpment through Campbellville was certainly not uncommon not all that long ago. Train 153 was a hot intermodal train and often was assigned a single unit for its trip to Chicago. Many single unit trains over the years sucumbed to the grade much as 153 did this day. Luckily the "Ham turn" was in the area and it's pair of veteran "Geeps" came to the rescue assisting the SD90 and its train up the hill. Hard to believe that today the GP9s are all gone and the SD90s may never come out of storage again.

  1. A fine photo of the days when CP still had a various number of GM’s to head up trains.

  2. And don’t forget STLH is history too. What a joke that was. But I guess it served its purpose.

  3. Nice shot Marcus.
