The Guelph subdivision can easily be described as a roller coaster, and this telephoto shot really shows it off well. CN L568 is at track speed of 55 MPH as they rush toward Stratford with 17 loads of fertilizer. From Kitchener to Highway 7, the Guelph sub can be described as a turkey trail (25 mph) but after HWY 7 and in the straight to Stratford, they are a rocket and chasing is impossible - you only get one chance. The customer in the background is apparently two customers, Shakespeare Mills Inc. and Quality Fertilizers Inc., both are active. I wish I did this shot in the GEXR days, but it's too late. With thanks to friend (and one time mod of this site!) Kyle Stefanovic for the inspiration.

  1. I’d hardly call the Guelph Sub a “turkey trail” between Kitchener and New Hamburg, the slow speed isn’t all to do with track conditions, there’s lots of beautiful CWR sections. Public crossings at grade are a lot of the issues!

Anyway….this shot is great! Well done!

  2. True true. Baden in particular has a good cluster of crossings.

  3. Glad we shot it at this spot. Your’s turned out great. Fun chase!

  4. Thanks guys. It was a lot of fun. I love our random Kitchener meet-ups, eh.

  5. Very nice Steve! I saw another shot similar to this by…you can probably guess. Seems we’re forming a Kitchener Railfan Team!

  6. Jasons shot is great. He might register for an account soon. I waited a few days just in case :)
