This mural has always fascinated me and I wanted to get a photo of a train going by it, little did I realise I already had the shot. All I needed was a train! Conneaut Fish and Chips, King and Main in the large, diagonal intersection of the former TH&B Belt Line. Never had the food here - prefer hutches - is this any good? :)

  1. Never see this side of the street featured. People always shoot coming back to Kinnear – myself included. Cool shot! I’ve never eaten here either – I’m a Hutch’s guy too.

  2. Who is Stephen C. Jost?? ????????

    Cool pic tho!

  3. My Dutch cousin!

  4. I believe me and friends had beers at Connaut or maybe a sports bar right there. Speaking of..wonder any one’s ever driven into that wall unsuspecting? ;)

  5. I’m always impressed by how much thought and effort you put into your ‘captures’.

  6. Well, I appreciate that, but I think you do the same Arnold! Personally I think our style of photography demands it.

Also, for James Knott sake – there’s a quite a bit I have yet to share, and I find your either one or the other kind of photographer: either you are trying to duplicate what you find on the Internet (which now, makes it easy to see what others have done!) or you are trying to forge new paths. I do both, admittedly, but I am always trying to find something new, I’m NOT one to have a bucket list of what others have done – I prefer to be the one posting stuff people will follow me to. :) And the sharing part will come in time, but some photos I have must wait.

Then again, I am often surprised, but not surprised, that something I thought was new, novel, or neat, was actually done 10, 20, 30, and even as long as 40 or 50 years ago by existing photographers! Some paths are well worn and great minds think alike in this hobby.

As for this shot, it’s not that easy if you don’t live in the area, you need a kinnear yard job to go down the hole first thing in the morning in spring or early summer. Easy if you live in the area..just have to scout it out and be patient. Until fairly recently I would continue to scout if I could pull this off…. I simply forgot I had done it a few years ago – stumbled on this while looking back at my photos and saved it for future posting.

Let’s see how fast someone gets a gp38-2 leading here. Won’t be any gp9′s in the shot of course ;) My bet’s on James Knott and he’ll have it before summer comes. :)

  7. Neat photo Steve. And I don’t think 8207 had long to go before being retired after you took the photo.
