A typical South Simcoe Railway Sunday excursion run from Tottenham to Beeton and return. The 1883-built 4-4-0 Rogers Locomotive Works product is still on the SSR property. It underwent extensive restoration in the past 10 years and is still used on some excursions, to my knowledge. Rather famous locomotive; has been part of several TV shows...National Dream for one, and is, in my mind, a National treasure.

  1. A more elegant time and means of travel. Beautiful restoration of ideals in this photo.

  2. Oh how I wish that they would restore the original cab. I believe the current cab (wooden?) was applied in conjunction with the filming of CBC’s ‘National Dream’ a few decades ago.

  3. Beautiful capture Mr. Mooney! I remember being fascinated with ‘The National Dream’ when it first aired on CBC (the only station we could access back then in Outport Newfoundland) in the mid ‘70’s and loved that engine! – Ken

  4. Thanks, Ken. Always appreciate hearing from you. It IS a majestic little steamer.

  5. Will always prefer the all-black tender with yellow lettering. The later CP look does nothing for me.

  6. I wonder if that is Frank Bunker at the controls.

  7. Doesn’t quite look like Frank at the throttle, Frank would have his trademark “pushed up” engineer’s hat, pinstripe grey and white and would be wearing steam engineers clothing, not a white T-shirt. John

  8. I don’t think it’s Frank Bunker at the throttle. He would have his engineer’s hat with pushed up visor, grey and white pin stripe, would have his steam engineer jacket on, not a white T-shirt, John
