GMDD SW1001 117 is seen at the MacMillan yard diesel shop ready to return to the General Motors Diesel Division plant in London. Presumably, it is already in the consist of CN 421 with SD40 5143, which will take it the back way to London via the Guelph Subdivision after having some type of work completed at the MacMillan yard shop. To the left is very clean CN GP9RM 7041. Photo taken with permission after signing a CN release form at the shop office.

  1. Odd that GMD couldn’t do this work themselves. Given the year the picture was taken, plus their order books at the time, I guess it was more prudent to send it out to get fixed.

  2. @Driver8666- I’m very sorry that I didn’t see your comment sooner.

Also, the switcher left EMDD in March of that year as I have photos of it on 422 going via the Guelph Subdivision to MacMillan yard. Interesting about the order books. That makes sense then as to why they sent it out for work.

  3. This should be the same unit, now painted all black and numbered 1001
