As the last remnants of winter are slowly fading to an early spring, GTW SD40-2 5937 leads a westbound, likely 149, through Bayview Junction with its ditch-lights off, indicating a rolling meet with an impending eastbound.

GTW 5937 was one of the last SD40-2’s to survive in its blue GT colors, having been built as Missouri Pacific 3196 in March 1975 then later becoming Union Pacific 4196 and adorned in amour yellow. Surprisingly today this unit still soldier’s on CN and was even repainted in the latest CN paint scheme during likely 2012 after surviving a lengthy stint in the Homewood, Illinois deadline in Chicago.

  1. Neat. Also note the newish SD75i and those well cars, which don’t seem to be around anymore.

  2. Aren’t those well cars common in the US especially the FEC?

  3. The FEC sure does seem to run a lot of stack trains. Those cars might have been more common here back then.

    Thanks for the comments guys.
