Well, with me; I know a train is coming when the skies turn dark. Just my luck. I'm on Lake O'Hara Road; maybe 2 miles west of the Alberta border and a dozen miles east of Field. I knew the Rocky Mountaineer was on its' way; waited while it navigated the Spiral Tunnel, and was rather disillusioned when the skies turned dark. Thats the way it goes. RMRX 8011 and 8018 power this eastbound in the late afternoon; destination Banff. The mountains gave this location a nice setting for a photo.

  1. Sun or no sun, that’s dandy !

  2. Thanks. Had the sun have been out, I would have been shooting right into it. Same thing for some other locations; notably the Dog River elevator image I posted recently…..on an angle that just did not lend itself to a good sun angle all day.

  3. Great setting is right Arnold! Nice photo indeed! I never knew about this location but did catch one in Banff a little over two years ago. http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=37563

  4. How fancy!! I found it almost amusing; the pampering. At Lake Louise when the train stopped, they rolled out a red carpet for the passengers. The upshot was, the train was already an hour late from Banff !!!
