Back in the mid 2000's the "Electric Yard" (Grand River Railway) was a fairly busy place and you'd get great light on a few movements when they happened, so I'd drive to work in Waterloo from Guelph via Galt on nice sunny days hoping to catch action before I head to work for 0900, and you bet your ass I got action. There were usually about 4+ movements every early morning on the Galt sub. The mainline is to my back and this is where trains would head up the Waterloo Subdivision to lift autos from Toyota. Before Wolverton this yard and some tracks to the north was all CP had for Toyota movements from the mainline, meaning in order to keep things fluid about 6 to 8 trains a day would stop at Galt and work here. Pictured is train 138 making their morning lift out of Galt of autos from Toyota with a dogs breakfast consist - at the time any CSX in this paint was rare but I had no idea at the time, this was just a rare foreign Class 1 unit on CP. Other than 138, usual morning trains would be the day Galt job, and theHam Turn I got a few months later. Also the "Sprint" train aka "Frame Train" 142 would be blasting by behind me on the main if the track was clear to get to GM, and a pair of boring GP9's didn't really make you move very fast. CP Trains were everywhere back then and they snuck by often. What do you Galt guys remember for the traffic pattern back in the good 'ol days?

  1. I shot this when it was coming in on the main, at the level crossing (mile 57).

    I remember at that time, 138 was always a regular train to work Galt in the morning. It was always a good bet to have extra power moving back east as well.
