Looking out the back deck from a B&B in Port Hawkesbury, after engine 5008 passed I couldn't help but grab a shot of this van. CBNS #1000, (x-CN 78107) named "The Enterprise", was on lease to the CBNS until early 2002 when it was moved to Tatamagouche, NS and became part of a commercial enterprise under the name The Train Station Inn.

As this crewman looked out over his idyllic setting, I cannot help but wonder if his mind has tried to cancel, or even comprehend, the atrocities of "9/11", the unforgettable event that turned our world upside down only four days previous. Living and working in this part of the East it must he hard to imagine something like that ever happening. More like a TV movie. Lucky for him, and the rest of us here, this was about as far removed as one could get.
Its beautiful.

  1. What a view. Great photo Arnold.

  2. Thanks, Lad. It really is nice country around there.

  3. A lovely scene.

  4. Glad you agree, Jacob.
I went back to this same B&B in 2019 and was disappointed a building had been added out back to house a kitchen and a common eating area. There is no more deck for an open view of the strait. It used to be a great place just to sit out and relax..and wait for a train out of Point Tupper. You could actually see it coming while out on the deck; but no more.

  5. Just got thinking. Though far from the tragedies that occurred, 7000+ passengers were being taken in be the residents of Gander, Newfoundland, and other surrounding towns while their planes were stranded. Can only imagine how “real” it seemed not that far away.
