EMD locomotive C&O 4418 leads a Buffalo-bound Chessie freight along Portage Road towards Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls. Shortly thereafter it will cross the Michigan Central bridge to the USA, on a hot summer day in July of 1983. The high-nose geep behind the 4418 has lots of doors open, perhaps locomotive issues enroute across Ontario? Imagine my surprise coming back to this same location in 2004 and finding the two tracks ripped up, and new hotels and a casino built up. The beautiful Canadian Horseshoe Falls are just a stone's throw down the hill.

  1. Great image Cameron!

  2. Nice job !

  3. At the time this photo was taken, we did not think of tranquility around Niagara Falls. But going back there today? Its a ZOO around there and nothing is recognizable any more.
Thanks for posting this. I really miss those days.

  4. Thank you, sir – I have long admired your photos, especially of Niagara Falls, and finally decided to dig out my slide collection and post a few.
