Strange that I ended up visiting Belleville three times in just over a week back in 1976. After taking a 3/4 shot earlier, I elected to shoot (wide angle 28MM) a full length image as shown here. I was unaware that the structure was going to be torn down not very long after I visited. In a few more months it would be gone. In my mind it was a real shame because inside was rather ornate looking. When we have doctors, lawyers, dentists, real estate people, chamber of commerce places, license bureaus and all the rest; I find it hard to understand that we cannot find the opportunity to repurpose these grand old structures. I guess nobody cares.

  1. Not true…we care! And yet, another fabulous photo. When this station was built…it was shared with the CNoR. The only three surviving stations from the CNoR I know to be in existence are Oshawa North and Solina (both are private residences), and Port Hope (still Municipally owned?),

  2. I had no idea that station was so big.

That’s excellent you were able to capture it before it came down Arnold.

  3. Thanks. And I tippy-toed thru it, too.

  4. Very impressive structure. I’ve never seen a photo of it before and long gone before I started railfanning.
