CN L540 is approaching Ottawa Street in Kitchener on the Huron Park Spur in early morning light. This location can be a tough crossing to photograph due to all the tightness of the tracks and the sun angles. Ideally you need a morning train as the sun will be on the more open side as seen here, which can be a further challenge as L540 infrequently ventures down the spur at this time of day. However on this Saturday morning everything seemed to come together. Powering the train are 4726, GMTX 2255 and 4761. GP38-2 4726, with its unique number-board, was set-off by the previous night’s A431. L540 would set-off all its cars at the interchange with Canadian Pacific and return light power back to the Kitchener yard.

  1. Great shot Jason and nice light! You can also get nice light on a NB in the evening. I only shot this engine once, down in Cambridge. Definitely one of the most ratty engines that was assigned to the Guelph Sub trains.

  2. Thanks Kevin! Yes, if they lead-up from the interchange in the evenings during the longer days it’s a pretty good angle there.
