During 1994, CN had acquired 24 SD40-2’s from Union Pacific, that were originally numbered UP 4090-4102, B4103, 4104, 4106-4114. CN quickly temporarily renumbered them by changing the first number to a ‘6 from 4’ to cycle them into service. These units were seen all over the CN network that year and eventually became CN 5364-5387 by 1995 after being remanufactured at AMF in Montreal.

Here is a link to a great photo of a pair of the former UP SD40-2’s on opposite trains taken by Arnold Mooney. HERE

Here CN train 238 with 9307, a renumbered former UP SD40-2 and a CN GP40-2L(W) are seen heading towards the former Snake Road walk bridge (now named Beth Jacob Court) on the Oakville Subdivision, just east of Bayview Junction.

  1. Nice leader as well.

  2. Yes I agree Arnold. I don’t think these were as common in the lead even by 1994 as I seem to recall.
