There is a lot I do not understand about railroading. For example, this trio of GE B39-8 locomotives; going to Montreal Maine & Atlantic on lease from LMX; came to Welland, dropped there; a couple of days later back to Toronto and I understand also made the run to Windsor and back.......but why? This is not the first time. I also saw Quebec Gatineau switchers come to Welland; sit, and return. Anyway, it did give me an opportunity to capture images..here is MM&A 8336, 8522 and 8548 sitting in Welland yard; and while I was there CP 8615, 6028 and 9601 rolled in as this southbound (unknown #) had work in the yard.
The MM&A started up in 2003 and as most of you know, died after the Lac Megantic wreck of 2013.

  1. Funny this was posted today, and while eating breakfast skimming the latest Railpace…

G&W has 2 or so of these on the Connecticut southern and one has been painted G&W. Apparently there is only one left in this paint scheme. They have had them a while, bouncing between the Ohio Central and CSOR.

  2. I suspect going from MMA. These three were sold to SLRG so they were likely headed to the states and set off in Welland because they lacked proper paperwork. Locomotives going state-side seem to get set-off in Welland fairly regularly. Don’t ask me why.

  3. Well, Mr. Smith, you are right about that.
This afternoon the two wayward NS units were sitting way back in Welland Yd,

  4. They must have been lifted this day on a NB/WB to London:

  5. Sorry, not the same units. But it shows there must have been a few them coming in at that time.

  6. the 6028 is still active with CP… rather unfortunate as that thing is definetly “ugliest locomotive on the roster” material! Also always thought those LMX B39-8s were neat
