Most viewers will remember these units; eight(4650-4657) of which came to CP from HELM leasing in 1999. Some photos of these have appeared on this site in the past. Despite their sheer "ugliness", I came to enjoy seeing them because the mish-mash of paint over the basic "Guilford" was so distinctive. Here's a pair of those old SD40-2 relics rumbling along the Galt Sub near Drumbo nearly 20 years ago. CP 4652 and 4655 began life as B&M 310 and 302. These units were initially B&M pale blue until swallowed up in the Timothy Melon Guilford empire in the 1980s and given the hideous colour you see here. The 4652 was sold in 2019 and 4655 retired in 2012 and sold off a year later.

  1. Arnold;these are not SD-40,s I think these are GP-40’s.

  2. Daydreaming again. Call it a typo.

  3. Neat consist Arnold.

Some of these were referred to as the “Ugly Brothers” during their time on CP back then.

  4. Not to confuse with the “ugly sisters” that predated them, I guess (STLH 5447, 5448 and 5449).

  5. Yes that’s right! I remember the “ugly sisters” as well.
