The lighting never played out well when CP switched the north end. This past Friday I received news that the last customer on what remains in service on the former Owen Sound subdivision has finally shut down ending all rail service on the line. I would imagine if CP operates on the line going forward it will only be to just north of the Mississauga Road crossing to use the passing siding, other than that the line is unofficially out of service. Back on February 8, 2014 it was business as usual with not only the boxcar facility needing switching out but the adjacent cover hopper facility requiring work as well. Eventually the warehouse receiving boxcars downsized and relocated, sharing space across the tracks with the other company, usually only receiving one or two boxcars a week. This day factory fresh CP GP20ECO 2266 lead the train as the crew prepares to clean some switches.

  1. Wow, a lot of snow that year!

  2. Nice capture showing the challenges of winter railroading.

  3. Neat scene with all the boxcars there.

  4. Was Katoen Natie there at the time? They get a lot of service with covered hoppers North side of the 401 you can see in your photo at the overpass. I’m sure you know that. I believe the box cars in your photo spotted across the tracks the industry is Katoen Natie too?
Nicely done on what looks like a cold snowy day. You’re a trooper!
