Rumbling east out of the evening sun, what is likely NI42 approaches the depot at Blenheim, where the operator is ready to hoop up the orders. Note the single-stall engine house in the distance at right.

  1. What a glorious image!! All that track!! Trust you to have been there, John. You’ve been everywhere else. :o )
Not easy to recognize the area these days.

  2. Amazing photo!

Almost all of the track in this picture is still in place, the 2′nd track to right of the train is missing, and it narrows to three tracks crossing the road. The entire complex was modernized in later years to send out “unit trains” which CSX continued to do a few times a year into 2005/6 – could load a full unit train in about 1-2 days.

  3. What a fantastic scene and beautifully captured.

  4. this is amazing

  5. Excellent. Nice to see the operator hooping up the orders.

  6. Thank you all for your comments, much appreciated. Was on a one day business trip, and learned earlier, always take your camera with you – just in case.

  7. Amazing

  8. DANG! Currently live in the area, so this photo is pure gold of what I missed! I heard that the station was torn down in 1995….part of modernization perhaps? But yes, all tracks are in place. Too bad this is no longer a ‘mainline’ for the C&O / CSX.

As a side note, today, the old ‘Tonner’ that used to switch out the Thompsons facility (now the Andersons) sits boarded up…I’m pretty sure right in front if where the station used to stand, if it was to still be around today. At least it was there last weekend.

  9. I thought the same thing as well, Todd. That old unit is looking for a rest home as it hasn’t moved in years.
That has to be where the station was.
