Hot summer's day, end of July, and I was shooting everything this day. Being out for nearly 8 hours, this was near the start. After some training of office personnel at Nith Rd (Paris West), and clearance of other trains in the area...the conductor hopped back into the cab of 4119. With a puff of exhaust, they're back on their way to the yard in Brantford.

  1. Nice capture Todd!

  2. Thanks Hogger76!

  3. Very nice shot!
The locomotive and signal bridge could certainly use a coat of paint, and the pole line looks like it is in need of some attention as well. :-)

  4. Thanks Paul! That one pole (leaning) didn’t want to be left out LOL

But, it completes the scene and the age that the infrastructure is, which of course includes the history behind this once busy junction for the CNR.

  5. The pole line is gone. A fence was also recently erected here on the left side between road and tracks. The signal bridge won’t get a lick of paint as it will all be replaced in due time – same as Goreway was recently removed and replaced.

This was a difficult shot back then and you pulled it off. It’s much easier now, no poles in the way, just a stupid steel fence.

  6. Thanks Stephen. I had seen the progress made through various Facebook groups…pole line gone, fence up, then someone hacked it down….then it went up again….and I agree that the old signals are on borrowed time.

I was lucky, shooting from the Market Steet crossing with my 75-300mm lens on. Safe distance away, and it was only beginning to gain speed.

But, remind me….Goreway, was that the old factory out of sight, to the right of the train? And is Paris Kitchens still there?
