About Bill Purdy
I reside in Puslinch. I have been a long time rail fan but a very recent "attempted photographer". I can be found around mile 43 on Galt sub almost everyday. It was there I met fellow rail fans Bill Clarke, Arnold Mooney and Brian. Bill became ill so I took my camera one day just to send him photos of the CP line. I got hooked. Bill Clarke passed on but now another Bill carries on a long tradition of rail fans at mile 43.

![The sun is out, the sky is a nice blue, the weather is cold, and a nice set of power makes the day. BNSF 6558 with CP 7042 race on through Guelph Junction passing a parked T69 on its way for a stop at Wolverton.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/IMG_4729-2-200x150.jpg)

![It's always nice to have foreign leaders on the CP mainline but today, the Canadian competition made and appearance. CN 5611 with a clean new CP 8206, motor on up to the Seventh concession on a beautiful sunny fall morning.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/IMG_4020-3-200x150.jpg)

![Once again CP7021, painted in its 'desert sand' paint scheme, leads CP 246 out of Guelph Junction on its south bound trip down the Hamilton sub. Its a beautiful location with the wild flowers in full bloom and makes for some nice added colour but between the bumble bees, raspberry canes and the mosquitoes, you will know you have been in there.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/IMG_2530-2-200x150.jpg)

![It was rare to find an SD70 ACu leading and it still is with all the troubles they have been having but as luck would have it, I got this one. It was getting on to dinner time when CP 7047 with CP 6239 finally made their way past the Third line and mile 75.1 on their northbound trip up the Hamilton sub. The shadows were creeping in and the clouds were causing some issues but when the time came, the sun came out.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/IMG_1053-3-200x150.jpg)

![After a lengthy delay at Hornby with power issues, CP sent the power from CP 244 to rescue the train. The sparkling new CP 8204 (former CP 8517) took over the lead and with EMDX 7205 made their way westward. I never heard anything about the EMDX, so it came as quite the surprise. With a clearance straight through to London, they pass through Guelph Junction with a pair of gentleman headed to the quarry for an evening swim.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/IMG_1117-3-200x150.jpg)

![It's always nice to see the SD60's back leading and any train running solo down the Hamilton mountain is quite the rarity as well. Todays CP 246 had former SOO, CP 6255 running solo with a very short auto rack only manifest as it rounded the bend on the approach to the First Line/ Third Line crossing. I must say, the black flies and mosquitoes had a feast the last time I was in there so today I waited for the horn at Campbellville Road and did a quick in and out.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/IMG_0819-3a-200x150.jpg)

![With what has been going on lately on this stretch of the Galt sub, getting one train in daylight if we are lucky, to seeing 3 trains by 10:30 am was a nice change. CP 235 waited at Guelph Junction for CP 234 to pass and then headed west. Shortly after, this one showed up. The annual weed sprayer, led by CP 6043. The SD40-2 wasn't looking the best physically, but it always nice to get a train with one of the few remaining leading.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/IMG_0673-2-200x150.jpg)

![CN 396 drew quite a bit of attention with Savage SVGX 1343 hitching a ride north to the place where it began as CN 1343. We waited for some time and the sun faded beneath the approaching clouds but the wait was worth it. CN 3258 with CN 2875 provide the power as the trio makes the approach to Aldershot as they run along side the 403.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/IMG_0571-3-200x150.jpg)

![I got a text from a fellow railfan saying CP 254 was lined down the Hamilton sub. I had little to zero interest in going anywhere to see that same old same old. Unlike other times, this was a Monday so CP 254 usually goes down and back up the same day. Earlier in the day, BNSF 5479 was actually leading CP 244 which terminated so all thoughts of it coming were gone. I can hear CP254 blowing for the crossings at Emerald Lake and the Seventh concession and my grandson wanted to go see it. I get another text saying the BNSF is leading CP 254. Off we go and I know I have no chance to catch it on the Galt sub, so this spot, at this time of day is a beauty. Here BNSF 5479 with CP 8935 head down the Hamilton sub at mile 75.1 with a clearance to Welland. Fresh new ties, fresh new ballast and a slow order made this an easy chase down.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/IMG_0352-3-200x150.jpg)

![After a lengthy wait for CP 247 to come up the Hamilton Sub, the Herzog ballast train makes its way across Appleby Line with CMQ 9020 and CMQ 9011 leading the way. They would head down the Hamilton sub and lay ballast as they proceeded southward and make the return trip north later that evening.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/IMG_0099-3-200x150.jpg)

![The conductor of GEXR 3800 and engineer of CP 8825 share a wave as CP 147 rolls through Guelph Junction West. I tried like mad to get a side by side with CP 651 and CP 147 but the timing was off on both shots. You can't win them all.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/IMG_9941-3-200x150.jpg)

![With the influx of foreign power on Canadian Pacific, Canadian National decided to get in on the show as well. Todays CN 148 stack train did just that. CN 3900 with BNSF 6781 rumble down the steep grade on the Dundas sub on the approach to Bayview.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/IMG_9614-3-200x150.jpg)

![I was just leaving Guelph for home when I ran across the GEXR headed across Victoria Road on their way back to Guelph Junction. I got ahead of it and around the corner, out of the woods it came with QG 3800 and its slug mate QG 800 leaving a nice (for me anyways) plume of heat and exhaust.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/IMG_9032-3-200x150.jpg)

![Sometimes things sneak up on you when you least expect it and this was one of them. I heard CP 244 with BNSF 7694 get cleared through a foreman at Galt so off I went to the 7th concession. I got my shot and the cloud of snow blew upon me so I turned away. After the initial blast I started to head back to the car and out of the snow came a flash of orange. I scooted back and caught the unexpected dpu, BNSF 9161 as it headed away into the mist. CP 244 has been rather good to us the last few days sporting pumpkins on the lead two days in a row.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/IMG_8632-2-200x150.jpg)

![Newman Road is a really nice spot to shoot southbound Canadian Pacific trains and today was no exception. A colorful set of power brought the railfans out to get their shots of CP 246. With CP 8737 on point and EMDX 7210 and CSX 489, the rumble out from under highway 6 as they descend the steep grade on their way to Desjardins and a meet with CP 247 at Aberdeen.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/IMG_7808-3-200x150.jpg)

![After stopping at Tim Hortons, we pulled out to head home and down the road was a string of gondolas crossing the road. Off we went and sat there for 10 minutes and the push restarted. American Iron and Metals TP90 came in to view and the sun poked out as it crossed Parkdale Avenue. AIM's history is clearly stated on it with its founding date in 1936 and its founder Peter Black.
It seemed almost like home there having worked at the former Columbian Chemicals for near 30 years.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/IMG_7604-3-200x150.jpg)

![We all knew this was coming and the phone was buzzing for a pumpkin leading through our area. I was rather hoping for a few more cars but I guess one is better than light power. Since it was foreign power, I wanted to get it at a landmark on the Galt sub so the Puslinch name sign seemed a logical spot. Here BNSF 7444 blasts past me on its way eastward for a stop at Hornby.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/IMG_7080-3-200x150.jpg)

![After barely missing this train In Guelph headed for Acton, I decided I'd head out Rockwood way and catch it on the way back. I chose this location to get above the weeds along the road so CN 7038 with GMTX 2279 and CN 4725 head under the Jones Baseline overpass with a short train on a nice bright fall afternoon.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/IMG_6319-2.JPG-resize-200x150.jpg)

![Well the big move of steam locomotive CN 6167 is upon us. With the expansion of the GO facilities at the station, it was either scrap, sell or relocate this consist that has been a fixture in Guelph for many years so the decision was made to move it to a new location along the Speed River. With the tender already being slowly backed in to its new location by the Mammout transport truck in the background, CN 6167 sits on the remotely controlled trailer at the stop lights at Macdonell Street awaiting its turn to be fitted in to its new home.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/IMG_6098-2.JPG-resized1-200x150.jpg)
