About Bill Purdy
I reside in Puslinch. I have been a long time rail fan but a very recent "attempted photographer". I can be found around mile 43 on Galt sub almost everyday. It was there I met fellow rail fans Bill Clarke, Arnold Mooney and Brian. Bill became ill so I took my camera one day just to send him photos of the CP line. I got hooked. Bill Clarke passed on but now another Bill carries on a long tradition of rail fans at mile 43.

![It was another beautiful fall day with the sun shining and the sumacs popping a nice glow of red as one of CP's military units takes the lead of CP 246. This version is the sand coloured version for the Canadian and US military vehicles. CP 7021 with CP 8734 begin their journey down the Hamilton sub from Campbellville as they approach the #3 side road.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/IMG_5285-3-200x150.jpg)

![After getting word that CP 234 would have a pair of SD70-ACu's for power, I ventured on down to the 7th Concession to wait on its arrival. The local beavers have dammed up the culvert going under the road raising to water level in the creek to a usable level. They were even nice enough to take some of the scrub brush away for their dam and a few others aided in clearing the brush and weeds. The beautiful fall morning with bright sun and blue skies made for perfect lighting to get the reflection. CP 7033 with CP 7018 blast past with 8116 feet of manifest in tow as they head east down the Galt sub.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/IMG_5150-2-200x150.jpg)

![It's a beautiful fall day, bright sun and blue skies and a fairly busy on the CP line through here. The fourth train of the day sees SD70 ACu, CP 7007, rumble out of Campbellville as it heads its way south down the Hamilton sub approaching the Number 3 Side Road. The bright red sumacs in their full fall reds add plenty of colour to the area.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/IMG_5185-3-200x150.jpg)

![CN 7081 with CN 1408 slowly makes its way back up the track after delivering a few box cars down the spur as it approaches the OSR set off awaiting pick up by CN for transportation. A snag in the paperwork has kept it stranded here for a way longer than anticipated. CN 542 would then hear that a late CN 540 brought 30 more cars for them to lift, so they backed up all the way along Edinburgh Rd to pick them up at the Crimea Street Yard.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/IMG_4341-3-200x150.jpg)

![GMD1, CN 1408, backs in to the siding along Edinburgh Road in Guelph to retrieve the remainder of its load. The crew was just hoping to get the load up the hill to the yard with the single powered train in the light rain. They would then work the yard for several hours more.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/IMG_3938-3-200x150.jpg)

![I do like to get myself in to the weeds lately and this location is no exception. Wild flowers, raspberry canes, vines, fallen trees and bees abound. It was worth it to get CP 254 with the all GMD consist of CP 6248, CP 6236 and CP 5012 as they slowly accelerate out of Campbellville southward down the Hamilton sub.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/IMG_3873-3-200x150.jpg)

![After making their final journey from Guelph Junction to Guelph, The crew of OSR 181 take the last walk from their train to a waiting ride at Dawson Road. The five engine consist of OSR 181, OSR 505, OSR 180, OSR 506 and OSR 504 with five cars and 2 Vans OSRX 434462 and OSRX 4900 taking up the rear, drew quite the crowd as they slowly worked their way to this new siding to await pickup by CN.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/IMG_3441-2-200x150.jpg)

![With the Ontario Southland Railway nearing the end of its run, and the cloudy overcast skies, I decided to venture out and shoot it today. The OSR's path runs in the worst conditions for bright sun as almost all shots will be right back in to it, so the overcast skies helped. A pair of MLW's in RS18u, 181 and RS23, 505, make their way through the village of Arkell past a model of a train standing in the horse yard. We may not be able to see a pair of locomotives built in 1958 and 1959 in these parts for much longer, if ever after next week.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/IMG_3091-2-200x150.jpg)

![Well I finally had a shot at getting the DDay unit, CP 6644 leading a train and of course it ran late, and it wasn't in the nicest weather conditions but I'll take it. Here it accelerates along the First Line as it heads south down the Hamilton sub for a stop at Desjardins.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/IMG_2398-4-200x150.jpg)

![Not a bad morning, Getting two CP eastbounds in 30 minutes in near perfect sun is always good! CP 234 was about as blah as one could get, then I heard a clearance for 8113 east to Guelph Junction. Rumbling up the grade it comes with two BNSF pumpkins in tow. CP 8113 with BNSF 3905 and BNSF 3952 are making good time as they pass the Puslinch mile board on their was for a stop at Hornby.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/IMG_1933-3-200x150.jpg)

![I was headed out to shoot CP 651 when T69 went eastbound so I decided I may as well wait for it to return. I was sitting in my usual spot when I decided to make a move to this location. This is a beautiful spot to shoot but one takes a chance with cars and trucks biting at your butt. With Brians Farm Supply being closed and lighter than normal traffic, I waited for T69 to get its clearance and parked until I heard the detector go off and wandered out on to the bridge to avoid extra waiting time. With the sun out from behind the clouds and the train accelerating up the grade, CP 3018 makes a nice entrance through the Puslinch countryside.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/IMG_1770-2-200x150.jpg)

![I've been waiting for this guy to finally lead T69 westward in bright sunshine and today it all came to be.
CP 3018 with CP 4427 and CP 2242 accelerate up the grade with 20 cars in tow on their way to a stop in Wolverton. The striped nose on the original GP38AC paint job makes for a nice change.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/IMG_1376-2-200x150.jpg)

![There's a lot of history in this photo. Originally built in 1871, for the Wellington, Grey and Bruce railways, this is one of the only stations that still stands. It was closed to the public in 1982 and used as an administration office for the next 10 years as trains continued through the area. It has been used as a museum since 1999. Two old Vans sit along side from its CN era and the overhead steel walk bridge still stands. The Grand Trunk railway installed the bridge in between 1910 and 1912 when up to 40 trains a day went through the area and pedestrians and school children had a hard time getting over the train yard.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/IMG_0748-2-200x150.jpg)

![This is just one of those things that happen in a day when everything goes right. We were taking my granddaughter to visit the doctor and down the road I see a flash of red and white. We went down to investigate and found the pair of M420's that the OSR had brought from Guelph Junction a few days prior. My now 3 year old grandson loves his trains but he's still quite afraid of then, so with a little coaxing and the fact they aren't running, we ventured over for a look. I managed to snap this during our visit. After this we visited the iconic CN 6167 steam engine to round out our morning. It couldn't have been much better.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/IMG_0545-2-200x150.jpg)

![A nice clean SD70ACu rebuild in CP 7037 leads a 5500 foot CP 246 up to Conservation Road in the light rain and fog on its way southward down the Hamilton sub for work at Kinnear Yard. The light rain and fog do a nice job to enhance the bright clean color of the leader.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/IMG_0220-3-200x150.jpg)

![A pair of RS-18u's in OSR 181 and OSR 182 are working to switch PDI industries as they back up to hook on to the remainder of the train sitting on the siding. The OSR's varying array of older power is a nice change to the standard GE power of the main lines. Everyone better get your shots in soon as the OSR could soon be a thing of the past in Guelph by the end of June.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/IMG_0006-2-200x150.jpg)

![The leader of CP 650 was a plain jane CP 8908 but the rear DPU proved be something different. One of the rebuilt SD70ACu's in CP 7033 provides the push from the rear as it passes mile 43.2 on the Galt sub. Perfect sun, perfect paint, proper time, once again we get lucky. Seeing anything lately on this section of the Galt sub is something, so this made my day.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/IMG_9963-2-200x150.jpg)

![I had went to Guelph Junction to check out what was up and saw the OSR getting ready to depart Guelph Junction so off I went to photograph them on the way to town. Getting them is a tough job in the sun so light rain and overcast skies aided the picture but not me. OSR 181 with OSR 1620 rumble along the bolted rail entering the village of Moffat as they pass the Sharpe feed store.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/IMG_9756-3-200x150.jpg)
