About Bill Purdy
I reside in Puslinch. I have been a long time rail fan but a very recent "attempted photographer". I can be found around mile 43 on Galt sub almost everyday. It was there I met fellow rail fans Bill Clarke, Arnold Mooney and Brian. Bill became ill so I took my camera one day just to send him photos of the CP line. I got hooked. Bill Clarke passed on but now another Bill carries on a long tradition of rail fans at mile 43.

![This is a rare occasion and I have to thank a fellow rail fan for informing me of this meet. The Waterdown spur is very seldom used anymore so having a train in it is quite rare. To top it off, we have the CWR train with SD40-2, CP 5871, idling away in the siding waiting for two CP trains to come southbound so they can continue to lay rails. This is the meet with CP 246, led by CP 9739 as it made its way towards Hamilton for work at Kinnear. CP 254 would follow it down in about forty-five minutes.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/IMG_2378-2-1-edited-200x150.jpg)

![After a tip from a friend about CP 246 having an excellent leader, off I went to start the chase. It started at the Campbellville junction of the Hamilton sub and ended here at Newman Road. CP 7021, all decked out in its sand color scheme to represent the Canadian and US army vehicle paint color, glides out from under the Highway six bridge on its way for a stop at Kinnear Yard. This was a tough chase as the whole train was just over 760 feet long so it maintained good track speed on the way down the hill through Waterdown.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/IMG_9408-s-200x150.jpg)

![It's always nice to see the SD40-2"s leading and todays CWR train provided two such engines. CP 5871 and CP 6080 rumble up to the 3rd line hauling new rail to be dropped along the Hamilton sub. The recent clear cutting of the right of way along the Hamilton sub has really opened up new possibilities for shots that haven't existed for years.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/IMG_2325-2-200x150.jpg)

![My grandson wanted to see a train that goes fast so off we ventured to try and catch a CP 651 we thought was coming. We were just approaching Moffat and my phone started going off steady but I was driving and couldn't answer. We got to the Conservation authority driveway and that's when I read about this guy. The sun is perfect, the train is good, the company is even better. CP 147 with SD70ACu CP 7028 and CEFX 1055 for power, accelerate out of Guelph Junction past Mountsberg with their load of auto racks headed to Wolverton. Even the horses stopped for a look.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/IMG_1492-2-200x150.jpg)

![A pair of rebuilds in SD70ACu, CP 7031 and AC44C6M, CP 8021, lead a westbound CP 147 up the Galt sub blasting past Mile 48 after getting cleared by T69 at Galt. The newly rebuilt SD70ACu are making a nice change of pace lately from the regular dull CP's and have been regularly leading through here instead of being stuck trailing.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/IMG_1525-2-200x150.jpg)

![I have heard this train on the scanner for a few months running the Pender to Wolverton job but in the last week it has swapped over to T72. Former MILW 2066 and SOO 2066, GP40-3, CP 4007 leads a 3200 foot auto rack train across the bridge by the dammed up Speed River on its way to the Toyota plant. Oddly enough this train would go in to emergency about 100 feet up the tracks and was a cold wait to get back to my truck on the other side.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/IMG_0699-edited-200x150.jpg)

![After making a detour up the Hamilton sub, CP 651 with CP 8153 and CP 9369 make their way over the Grand River bridge on the way west for a meet with T72 at Orrs Lake. Believe me when I say, it was real cold standing on a snow bank for 30 minutes in -20C weather and the frozen river adds to the shot.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/IMG_0666-3-200x150.jpg)

![Because of the ongoing protests in the Belleville area, CP 650 tied down in Wolverton on Wednesday for the night. Today, it headed east on a detour route which took it down the Hamilton sub instead of using the Galt sub. With a new train number of 254-2, and with a light snow falling, CP 8915 led it past the detector at mile 72 with the highlight of the train, NS 4224 pushing from the rear. This being one of the new 'key' trains, it was crawling along as it made its way south approaching the steep downhill grade to Hamilton.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/IMG_0613-3-200x150.jpg)

![I was in Burlington when I got a nice tip from a friend that CP 8008 was leading CP 246 so over to Newman Road I went. A few minutes later I got another saying an SD40-2 was along for the ride. Well, in perfect sunshine for a change, out from under the Highway six bridge comes CP 8008 with CP 6051 and CP 8131 heading down the Hamilton sub on their way for work at Kinnear Yard.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/IMG_9679-2-200x150.jpg)

![I was sitting in my usual spot waiting for an early CP 140 when my phone rang. Mr. Host informed me that CP 246 had a rebuilt CP 7006 leading. Well every other effort to get one of these rebuilds has ended up broke down, or trailing, so off I went to Guelph Junction. I shot CP 140 so I sat wondering where to get the CP 246 and I recalled looking at Arnold's picture earlier in the day. A few things changed with the "Guelph Junction" sign replaced by the "Campbellville" sign, the trees and foliage are a little higher and grown in and there are gates on the crossing just behind me but the spot is a very good shooting location.CP 7006 with CP 3063 and CP 8608 pour the power on as they head south down the Hamilton sub for a stop at Kinnear.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/IMG_9238-3-200x150.jpg)

![CP 246 with CP 9357 and CP 7023 rumble past Appleby Line on their westward journey up the Galt sub to Guelph Junction where they will head to Hamilton. CP 7023 is sporting the paint scheme of the Canadian and US fighter jets. Just too bad it wasn't leading! Oddly enough, I've saw several others pictures of this train and most of them have birds overhead. Hmm.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/IMG_8897-2-200x150.jpg)

![I once again got lucky here. I was out to shoot CP 651 when it got cleared with an "after". Well I hear SOO 4410 so off I went to the old Cambridge train station just in case it was going to work locally. It headed down the spur so I took off to this location in the park. The light fog and lack of any sun made this shot available.

![I was really waiting for an eastbound to be called out, and through some static I thought I heard CP 6069 but thought, Nah it can't be true but just to be sure I took off for Victoria Road and ran to this location. My phone rings and it's confirmed. It's darn cold in this field at zero Celsius according to the CP detector but the wait was worth it. To put a bow on this, the clouds parted and the sun came out.

![I drove by this location many times but a few days before as I went by, I noticed the fall leaves were in full force with bright reds and orange so I made a plan to catch CP 246 and CP 254 here on Thursday. ![With the CP Holiday train schedule getting released for this year, a former Holiday Train leader from the past made an appearance today. Having made its last run on the 'Christmas Train' in 2007, CP 9714 with a Graffiti ridden BNSF 7051 and CP 3113 rumble up the North track approaching Guelph Line on their way for work at Guelph Junction. The fall colours and bright sunny day and the fact that this is on the North track made for perfect conditions.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/IMG_7428-4-200x150.jpg)

![The fall colours are in full force in our area and this location at the Scotch Block is definitely a good one. Here, CN 5675 with IC 2462 and CN 2162 provide the power to climb the grade up to Mile 30 on the Halton sub on their way to a meet with CN 435 at Stewarttown.
