![While I was on my way to Port Stanley to see the old tank cars used on the L&PS I stopped at the C&O roundhouse site to take a few photographs. As per my luck I drove all the way from BC only to find silence. There was not one locomotive in sight, so I photographed the vans, some M of W equipment, & the roundhouse.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/CO-Cabooses-@-St-Thomas-Ont.-Oct-1982-J-W-Booth-1280x853-200x150.jpg)

![While living in Coquitlam BC my wife & I took a drive out to the Frazer Valley to see the sights. We eventually ended up in Agassiz with the intent of doing a little shopping, & looking around. In due time we came across this interesting little VIA station on the south side of the CP tracks so I took two pictures of it. Sitting behind the station were two people who were waiting for the train to arrive. With the exception some stations along the L&PS line in Ontario this is the smallest one I ever saw.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/VIA-station-@-Agassiz-BC-19-June-1987-J-W-Booth-1280x845-200x150.jpg)

![Of all the many trips I took to the CP yards in Victoria BC this is the only time I ever saw CP 6701 at that location. Taking advantage of the rare spring sunlight I quickly got a shot of it. In the late 1980's a GP-9, A GP-35, or a VIA dayliner would be what you would expect to see Victoria. I photographed the yards, & the buildings from 1981 till the end of the 1990's this gave me the opportunity catch a lot of changes. Only in the interior of the buildings could you back in time & get an idea of what life was like in 1913.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/CP-6701-@-Victoria-BC-87-04-27-J-W-Booth-1280x853-200x150.jpg)

![The CP yards in Princeton were located just south of BC highway #3. I was on my way back to Vancouver when I saw the cars from the CP work train, so I pulled over to see if I could get a few pictures. I took a bit of time & walked around the station area. The station was a wood frame structure built from a simple design. The exterior of the building was covered with what I called "insul brick" a material that gave some addition insulation to the building. There was one CP truck parked near the station, but there was no activity taking place. A few years later all was gone.
Princeton is a neat little BC interior town. It is like an oasis in a desert of trees. A great place to stop, buy fuel, & eat.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/CP-station-@-Princeton-BC-Fall-1981-Copy-1280x867-200x150.jpg)

![Another cold winter day at Cranbrook. I guess my age must be getting to me as I have no idea why I was there on that date, but it must have been work related. As for the snow, I never had much luck taking pictures that combined snow & bright light. Catching CP 1631 at work is great, but the man at the switch is what caught my eye. It shows what his life was like in the winter. He was an important part of railway operations that seldom got the credit that it deserved. The people on the ground who make things work, they are the important ones.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/CP-1631-@-Cranbrook-BC-88-01-06-J-W-Booth1280x853-200x150.jpg)

![I was driving back to Vancouver BC on highway 3 when I spotted some CP buildings on the north side of the road at Midway BC. I pulled over, & walked around yards for a few minutes & there was no railway activity at all. No rolling stock, just a soft wind. I took what pictures I could until I ran out of film. While there I took two pictures of the station. The attached picture turned the best. The other one taught me not to keep the camera strap too close to the lens. The hills in the background are in the USA. I'm glad the town kept the station, & used it to promote the local history.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/CP-Station-@-Midway-BC-Sept-1981-J-W-Booth-1280x847-200x150.jpg)

![On the date of this photograph I was doing contract supervision at the Cranbrook post office, so taking advantage of being there I took some after work time to visit the CP yards. Standing near the turntable pit I managed to catch CP 1611/5827/3101 in one shot. Also in the background you can see the water tank in it's original location. I'm glad the water tank was saved, & moved to the museum side of the yards. Maybe someone can tell me if it is only the wood shell at the museum, or if the original steel tank is still inside it. In the 1980's the majority of the power in Cranbrook would be CP units. Today you would probably find lots UP locomotives in the mix.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/CP-16115827-3101-@-CP-Roundhouse-Cranbrook-BC-87-06-26-J-W-Booth-photo-x3-1280x853-200x150.jpg)

![During one of my many trips through I detoured off the highway & over to the rail yards. This time spotted CN 4609 sitting there. I knew that this was an old NAR unit by it's colors, & I knew that it was a rare site in the Kelowna area so I took 4 photographs of it. Three from ground level, & this one from the top of a little hill. How long it stayed in BC or on CN's roster I have no idea, but it's name means more today then it did then.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/CN-4609-@-Kelowna-BC-by-J-W-Booth-88-05-5-x2-1280x853-200x150.jpg)

![The oil house building shown in the picture is a very small, but important piece of Vancouver railway history. CP locomotives 7113/7117/7116/7094 were sitting behind the building, but the area in front of it was clear which allowed for a good photograph. To the right of the building is the lube oil tank, & the waste oil tank. All in all there is a lot of history in the picture. The brick oil house was made to last, & by it's looks it took a pounding over the years. I took many pictures of railway buildings over the years because I felt that they were also an important piece of history. Today buildings like this are long gone! I have to thank my friend Andy Cassidy for telling me what the building, & the tanks were used for.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/CP-Drake-St-Shops-Oil-House-@-Vancouver-BC-Sept-1981-1280x853-200x150.jpg)

![During the 1980's the railway scene in Kelowna was interesting. I always seemed to find a CP or CN unit somewhere in the yards. On this particular day CP 3031 was moving cars around the area near me. I took around 3 photographs CP 3031 before moving on. I like this picture because it shows the human side of day to day railway operations. Parking near there was never an issue, & there was a small hill that you could climb to get a better view of the yards. At the time I had the impression that there was enough local business to keep the railways busy for years, but sadly I was wrong! The days before the idiots with spray cans, & no respect for the railways were great.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/CP-3031-@-Kelowna-BC-87-03-20-J-W-Booth-1280x831-200x150.jpg)

![I was lucky enough to be at the Victoria CP roundhouse when E&N (CP) 3004 arrived from Nanaimo. Many times I had watched the VIA cars cross over the turntable, but this was the first time I actually saw a locomotive being turned around on it. Once the locomotive was turned it picked up a few cars, headed back to Nanaimo. At the date of the picture, the roundhouse was only used to maintain the VIA equipment. The E&N took care of their equipment out in the open at Nanaimo. Today the yards in Victoria have been sold off, & all is just a memory.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/EN-Railfreight-3004-@-Victoria-BC-21st-July-1997-J-W-Booth-200x150.jpg)

![While doing some contract supervision at the Golden post office I took my lunch break & walked over to the CPR station. I managed to get two pictures of the station with no activity near it. Later on in the day I managed to catch an east bound VIA train at the station, All in all it was a good day for rail fanning and the rains never came so both the roofing contractor, & I were happy.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/CP-Station-@-Golden-BC-86-09-16-J-W-Booth-1280x808-200x150.jpg)

![To get this photograph I was standing behind the remains of the CP roundhouse rear walls. Realizing that in the steam era, some of the CPR's largest locomotives visited Field. it was my intent was to photograph the turntable while it was still there. As far as I know not many CPR turntables were of this design. I only saw one other & that was in Cranbrook BC. Except for the CPR employee running across the main line there seemed to be no activity taking place. In the background the TCH is two lane, & the river is low. Looking down at the roundhouse floor you can see the indents for the columns, & where a fire wall once stood. Also if I am correct the original roundhouse floor consisted of cinders. The concrete was probably added in the 1940's.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/CP-Roundhouse-TT-@-Field-BC-Oct-1981-J-W-Booth-1280x849-1280x849-200x150.jpg)

![This photograph shows the locomotive entrances to stalls 3 to 9 at the CP Drake St roundhouse in Vancouver BC. These were the main working stalls of the building in 1981. Stalls 10 to 12 (not shown)were used as the diesel shops. The remaining un-numbered portions of the roundhouse, & some areas of the back shop were used by CP Transport for vehicle servicing. These were the dying days of CP activity at the Drake St site. As you walked around the area you could see where many of the tracks had been recently removed, & ground preloading for Expo 86 was well underway. Today the area of the roundhouse once occupied by stalls 3 to 12 still exist, but with a completely different use being applied to it.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/CP-Drake-St-Shops-RH-@-Vancouver-BC-Sept-1981-J-W-Booth-1280x844-200x150.jpg)

![Though I drove past Field BC many times, I believe this photograph was taken on a work related trip. The CP station & the roundhouse were easy to spot from the TransCanada highway, so I was like a bear being drawn by the scent of honey. Off the highway, & into town I went! I took around 5 pictures of the roundhouse remnants while there. This picture shows a typical column line through the building. Something you would not normally get to see. The white, black paint used in the interior of the building is typical for the CPR. Sadly there was not enough time, so I never went over to the station area.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/CP-Roundhouse-@-Field-BC-Oct-1981-J-W-Booth1280x845-200x150.jpg)

![After finishing my work at the Penticton post office I wandered over to the CP (KVR) yards to take some photographs. A quick look,& you could see that remaining railway buildings were in the last stages of their lives. At one time the area was a beehive of activity, and an important industry for the town. Today, only the old timers could indicate the actual location of the old CP yards. What was, is now totally erased. As for the station, I took two pictures of it. One from the track side, & one from the street side. The green building on the left side of the station was a more recent addition to it.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/CP-KVR-Station-@-Penticton-BC-early-Oct-1982-J-W-Booth-1280x844-200x150.jpg)

![In this photograph, CP 6518 is sitting quietly near the steam era oil house @ CP Drake Street Yards. I stood back a distance from CP 6518 when I took its picture. I'm sure the idea at the time was to get a bit of the background items in as well. I guess this is what you do when you know you are running out of film. On the left side of the locomotive you can see the door leading into the old locomotive foreman's office. On the right side of the locomotive you can see 3 passenger cars, & one box car from the "BC Provincial Museum" train. The passenger cars are the "Skeena River", the "Kootenay River", the "Adventure", & the box car is the "Nanaimo River".](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/CP-6518-@-Drake-St-Shops-Vancouver-BC-Sept-1981-Copy-2-1280x844-200x150.jpg)

![As I remember this photograph was taken on nice Sunday in Sept. 1981. Which Sunday! Can't remember! I spent around 2 hours at the site & never saw any CP employees. This allowed me to walk around with a little freedom, but as per my policy I kept off the equipment, & only took photographs. The idea of the trip was to photograph the site before the ongoing Expo 86 construction erased any more evidence of the CPR Drake St yards being there. The locomotives in the picture are photographed from the dark side because the good side was blocked by steam era oil house. Sadly there was so much more to see, & not enough film to capture it.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/CP-7094-@-Drake-St-Shoptrack-Vancouver-BC-Sept-1981-Copy-1280x847-200x150.jpg)
