![In response to a question asked by DAL (re picture 24912) I am attaching this picture of a stand alone wood frame freight shed at Midway BC. The building was located near the station but north of the main line. Using my past experience and taking an educated guess I would say foot print of the building would have been about 29ft x 29ft. It had two 6ft W freight doors (one each on the north & south sides) and had no man door or windows. The 8ft W platform ran the full length along the north side. If the building was built using CPR standard practices, the exterior walls would have been built using 10 ft long 2 inch x 6 inch wood studs spaced at 2 ft O.C. The finished floor elevation would met the CPR standard requirements for unloading railcars. The building had a crawl space under it. One thing I have always liked is to look at a railway building & picture it being used.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/CP-Freight-Shed-@-Midway-BC-Sept-1981x2-1024x687-200x150.jpg)

![Having seen this car many times while driving on the TCH. It sat on the south side of the highway just west of Revelstoke BC. I'm glad I took this nice sunny day to actually stop and have a closer look at it. I knew it was private property and I tried to find someone working on site but it was to no avail so I slowly worked my way down to the car, took some pictures and left the site.
Later I was told that the car started out as a CNR car & was later perchasd by the CPR. If I am correct the car has been saved and now resides at "Three Valley Gap" resort and is painted back to it's CNR colors.
As for the GPS location! So much has changed since then that I could not find the site, but I did try.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/CP-passenger-car-just-west-of-Revelstoke-BC-86-09-17-x3-1280x853-200x150.jpg)

![In this photograph E&N (CP) 3004 is almost completely turned and just about ready to leave the turntable and couple to the waiting train cars for it's trip back to Nanaimo. Victoria was having a drought at the time and the sun was down low so there was quite a reflection off the locomotive. CP 3004 seemed to have spent the majority of it's life in western Canada. I first saw it in Aug. 1971 at Brandon Man. and in 1987 at Penticton BC and many times after that on Vancouver Island. In the background you see the 1913 Victoria CP 10 stall roundhouse & backshop. The roundhouse was one of the first ones in Canada to be divided by fire walls and all of the fire doors were still in place at the date of the photograph. I did quite a bit of research on the Victoria roundhouse complex and the Duncan BC engine house in the 1990's which led me to make a set of N scale drawings for all the buildings. Again just behind the the locomotive you can see a VIA rail dayliner sitting in stall #1 while watching the action on the turntable. The VIA rail cars were (at the time) were maintained in the backshop area of the roundhouse. Stall #1 was mainly used as a drive through to access the backshop area. I really enjoyed exploring the Victoria CP buildings & learned a lot on how the CPR built buildings during that time period. I took a lot of pictures of the Victoria CP buildings but they are detail pictures.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/EN-Railfreight-3004-@-Victoria-BC-21st-July-1997-J-W-Booth-1280x845-200x150.jpg)

![During the heyday of the "E&N RAILFREIGHT" operations on Vancouver Island I was lucky enough to be in the right place and at the right time to catch the #3004 being turned on the Victoria turntable. Normally the turntable would sit lined up with stall #1 for the VIA Rail cars to use.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/EN-Railfreight-@-Victoria-BC-21st-July-1997-J-W-Booth-x2-Copy-1280x824-200x150.jpg)

![Another nasty day in Revelstoke BC. Other than a place to change crews, the Revelstoke yards seem to be slowly going away in the same fashion as the CP yards in Nelson BC did.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/CP-6058-@-Revelstoke-BC-86-10-30-Copy-1280x832-200x150.jpg)

![It was a nice day and we were driving through Princeton on our way back to Vancouver BC. and as we started to climb the big hill we spotted some CP cars in the CP(KVR) yard so we stopped for bit of picture taking. CP 411375 was part of the work train sitting there in the small yard but it caught my attention. Looking at the car I said to myself what did this car look like when it was new, what was it's number or name, how many places has it visited in it's lifetime! If it could only talk what stories would it tell? Today Princeton is one of those rails to trails towns. A place to get a bite to eat and keep on going!](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/CP-service-car-411375-@-Princeton-BC-Fall-1981-Copy-1280x841-200x150.jpg)

![Time to remember all the Canadian Veterans who lost their lives on D-Day and to those who survived and fought on. God bless them!
The sign is one of two that hung on the platform of the CNR Station @ Camp Shilo Manitoba. Probably one of the last signs the soldiers saw before they boarded their train for eastern Canada and on to England.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/CFB-Shilo-Man-station-sign-WW2-Camp-Shilo-sign-Copy-1280x1191-200x150.jpg)

![A nice October day in Revelstoke BC! Lots of liquid sunshine and a good hardhat to keep your head dry. Catching locomotives being fulled was not something most people got to see and I was lucky enough be there at the right time. I did what I normally would have done. I just stayed well back and took photographs. Very seldom did I ever talk to a CP employee, I just kept my pass handy and observed. Too this day I have no idea how much fuel locomotives like CP 5711 would have carried in their tanks, nor do I know how far they went with a full tank. Especially in the mountains.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/CP-5711-@-Revelstoke-BC-86-10-30-JWB-2-1280x853-200x150.jpg)

![A CP Van among many other CP Vans! CP Van 434207 was sitting in the Revelstoke van maintenance area along with many others and it was the one I chose to photograph. Little did I know that the RY Vans would not be around much longer. ![After a days work at the Nelson Federal Building I drove down to the CPR yards to look around. This time I walked through some deep snow to photograph snow plow 400773 which was sitting patiently near the old roundhouse turntable. This was not the first time nor the last time I managed to photograph it. I always had as much interest in railway buildings as I did in rolling stock so I will always regret not having or taking the time to photograph all sides of the Nelson roundhouse remains and of the diesel shop.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/CP-snow-plow-400773-@-Nelson-BC-86-12-10-JWB-1280x853-200x150.jpg)

![We are going back a few years, but if I remember correctly this picture was taken from the edge of the CPR property. The weather on that day was typical for someone who worked out of the lower mainland. A dull day with "Liquid Sunshine". CP 8812 was working the yard so I just stood there and watched it for awhile, then I photographed it. If you had the proper personal equipment, and a signed release it was easy to carefully photograph the Revelstoke yards. Today Revelstoke is a shell of what it once was, but Golden is happy. For history's sake I'm glad I caught a few of the first generation diesel locomotives. I used to be able to say that the London built GM locomotives were made just down the street from where I grew up, but I can't say that any more!](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/CP-8812-1280x853-200x150.jpg)

![The CP locomotive 5823 was the lead engine on a west bound train headed to Vancouver. I was lucky leave the Trans Canada Highway and get to the CP station in time to catch a crew change. ![Again I was chasing post office buildings, and if I am correct I was looking after a contract that required replacing parts of the lobby floor. The Penticton yard on that day had a few cars & locomotives just sitting there quietly. I never saw any activity or CP employees while I was on site so I just walked around and took photographs. Would have loved to enter the roundhouse, but couldn't find anyone to ask. The van is an older wood van that has been covered in plywood.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/CP-401201-CP-van-437168-@-Penticton-BC-early-Oct-1982-1280x847-200x150.jpg)

![Nice warm day in Cranbrook! Not sure why I was there, but I think I had contractors working on the post office roof at the time. Anyways after work was over for the day I drifted down to the CP yards & CP 8201 was idling away so I grabbed a shot of it. Mainly I took photographs of individual locomotives, rolling stock,or buildings because I knew that things were always changing, & I might not get to see them again.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/CP-8201-@-Cranbrook-BC-87-09-14-J-W-Booth-1280x842-200x150.jpg)

![Left Vancouver by air, landed in Penticton, rented a (stick shift) Jeep and drove through the mountains to the Nelson/Castlegar area in a snowstorm just to get this picture. Actually it was a business trip but what the heck. A person could access the Nelson shop area from the station which is something I did not do for safety reasons. I usually parked on the airport side and walked over to the shop area. A much safer journey. CP snow plow 400773 managed to pose for me more than once. The first time I saw it was during a trip to Rosebery in Oct 1981. This time 400773 was sitting in front of the old Nelson CPR roundhouse turntable which was still in use at that time. What CPR used the remaining portion of the roundhouse for I have no idea, but I do know that CPR used a portion of the Moose Jaw roundhouse for car maintenance during the same time period.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/CP-Snow-Plow-400773-@-Nelson-BC-86-12-10-J-W-Booth-1280x844-200x150.jpg)

![When walking around rail yards you sometimes encounter some strange things! The home made speeder in the attached photograph would be one of them. Standing there looking at it so many questions & thoughts came to my mind. Who made it,was it only used during the summer, was it only used when there was no rain, why no windshield? The operators seat looked comfortable. Considering the size the local mosquitoes my guess is that the operator never smiled while the speeder was in motion. Would have loved to have seen it in action, but never had the chance.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/WP-YR-Speeder-@-Whitehorse-YT-82-08-11-J-W-Booth-1280x845-200x150.jpg)

![On one of my typical trips to the Kamloops, I drove down to the old CP station area. While there I looked westwards down the tracks, and spotted a set of headlights in the distance. ![The photograph was taken sometime in the mid to late 1990's. I am not sure of the exact date, because I took so many pictures of Victoria CP buildings in the 1990's that I just rolled them into one time period. In this picture VIA 6148 had just left the back shop, & crossed over the turntable to be fuelled prior to heading over to the Victoria VIA station. Today the VIA station is gone. The rail bridge to the station is gone, & the old CP roundhouse site is being modified to suit it's new owners.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/CP-RH-Victoria-BC-VIA-6148-leaving-building-J-W-Booth-853x1280-200x150.jpg)

![While walking around the C&O site in St Thomas it became very clear that the local employees took a lot of pride in their buildings, & grounds. Everything was neat & tidy! The way a photographer likes to see it. The site was just the opposite of many locations I have photographed over the years. It was a pleasure not to need a weed whacker, a tree pruner, a lawn mower, or a ground's crew with you in order to get a decent picture.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/CO-Maint-Equipt-@-St-Thomas-Ont.-RH-Oct-1982-J-W-Booth-1280x853-200x150.jpg)
