It has been a long time since this image was captured, but the view off the hillside at the old Hamilton West gathering spot has not really changed all that much. Power has long retired/rebuilt and track speed has increased. In this view an unidentified CN eastbound rolls by behind CN 9492, 4572 and 4521. It is the height of fall colour mid-October in 1978.
Extra flags looking good. So are the old Geeps. One of my favourite models over the years.

  1. Fabulous time capsule Arnold! Open autoracks, un-rebuilt GP9′s and jointed rail. My, how time flies!

  2. Awh, yeah, Stuart; that old jointed rail. And the speed on the curve here limited to around 15 MPH or so…I forget….
I keep wondering where the old “Hamilton West” sign went to.

  3. Love this Arnold! Note, the ash trees are still alive in the background.

  4. Thanks, James. I haven’t wandered over to the “lookout” in quite a while. As in a few years! Now I feel like checking it out.

  5. This is serendipity.

  6. Arnold this lookout is a great sport late in fall as its usually last to turn along with hamilton proper. If the colours play ball… in this pic it was definately a good year for colour. Weve had some dud years last few.
