Over two decades later, and today I was able to once again photograph a CN GP9u leading a train on the Guelph Subdivision. During the mid to late 1990’s these units were assigned to every local train operating over the Guelph Subdivision and related spurs, so seeing one still earning it’s keep 20 plus years later was a welcome sight. L568 is just west of Baden with CN 4028, GMTX 2323 and GMTX 2279 as it approaches Nafziger Road.

  1. Awesome. I’m liking the “new” CN operations on the Guelph Sub.

  2. So can anyone definitively answer how many 40xx series GP9′s are still out there on CN? I’m led to believe this may be one of very few company..

  3. Great shot Jason!

  4. According to the 2018 CTG only 4018 and 4028 remain of the 4000′s.

  5. Thank you guys for the comments and information on the 4000′s.

  6. Pinch me. Next we need a SW1200 to come to the Guelph sub. That would just about complete the tri-fecta of the oldest switchers on the CN roster.. 20 years later.

  7. CN 4018 has been sold off to Cando rail services not to long ago. So I guess that CN 4028 might be the very last 4000 series GP9 on the CN roster. I surely hope that these GMTX GP38-2s don’t replace 4028! Nice catch! Thanks for sharing!

  8. Wow – so it’s the last one. The way things go on the Guelph sub power is changing at least once weekly, so I wouldn’t waste time.

  9. When did 4018 get sold to CANDO ??

  10. If I’m not mistaking, CN 4018 was sold to Cando in 2015.
