The 1052 and 1057 are rare visitors to the Coronado Sub. It was this one round trip (grain peddling) for them and I never saw them again. The 1052 does show some green wearing through the black. Also, at the back of the train, several grain boxes can be seen. They are the help that was needed at this time when Gov't grain hoppers were in short supply. Caboose 79836 is just peaking out at the edge of the bush. Photo taken at mile 24.4 at 14:30.

  1. Awesome

  2. Very nice photo. I believe that caboose spent a time in Kitchener during the 90′s as well.

  3. Thanks Jamie and Jason. :-)
I wish I could remember where I saw the 79836 myself. Not sure if it was this site or another, it was in a deadline of cars, somewhere in the east. The photo was 90′s as well. Although looking rather beat up, it still had “assigned to 584″ on the side. Seemed a sad end after 20+ years of going back and forth to eastern Alberta.

  4. Photography disguised as artwork framed by Wild Rose Country

  5. Thank you for the most generous comment and I’m a Wild Rose lover myself. :-)

  6. A most beautiful and scenic type image with some rare beasts!!! I am rather surprised at how poorly that paint on 1052 has held up since I shot it in Winnipeg, green and gold, back in 1974……..only 13 years previous.

  7. Many thanks Arnold. :-) I checked out your photo of the 1052. It had the old style number boards, like the 1073 in this photo, which I really like. The numerals under the cab window look a lot more elegant also. I looked a little further into the 1052, you noted on your photo it was re-built into the 1419. I found photos of the 1419 still working in Winnipeg in October of 2019. Kind of neat, it was back where your photo was taken, yet, 45 years later.
