Who needs stars when you've got Columbian Carbon in the backdrop at night? Pictured here in Strathearne Yard, the 1600 yard job pauses temporarily during a busy night of switching in Hamilton's far east. I believe they were sorting traffic for Ruetgers and/or Contanda before making further moves at the industries themselves.

  1. Nicely done! Accurately captures the mood of railroading in that part of town at night.

  2. I like!

  3. Thanks Peter. It made up for a time when I saw the 2300 lifting Triple M here back in May or June but didn’t take the shot on account of knowing the one crew member on that job that night isn’t very fond of railfans. Didn’t want to find out what she thought of railfans at 2am.

  4. Thanks Steve :)

  5. Well done James. Beautiful shot!

  6. The exposure on the 1437 is perfect and I love the towers in the background right. :-)

  7. 2 AM??? you sure are dedicated ;)

  8. Thanks Phil and Larry.

@Larry – there are some pretty bright lights to the left out of frame at the Dofasco facility there that sure helped light up the power. This exposure was only 17 seconds!

@Steve – haha yeah, I have a problem. I think that was one of the nights I was out with 555 and it ended up down the hole to NSC, so the night got away from me pretty quickly. I was pretty new to the night shots then and excited to try them out. This one was much more reasonable – around 8pm. The only silver lining to the shorter days.

  9. @CN9317, sorry I mistook you for someone else with a similar username. lol. My bad!

  10. A great shot from the industrial section of my hometown

  11. I spent over 25 years in there. Well done!

  12. That’s awesometacular Jamie.

Bill, I hope they are fond memories! :)
