Yep! You used to be able to walk in free of charge. They had issues with people parking all over roads and peoples lawns nearby which lead to no parking zones and Hamilton Bylaw ticketing hikers.
They then made a lot which was pay and display parking…guess with Covid they figured it was a good way to reduce the massive crowds by making the reservation system and pay to visit.
I guess if i lived there I would not like the traffic nor the people parking on my lawn either. Is there less traffic now because of the no parking zones and pay to park.
I have always wanted to go up there actually. I have only seen it from the railroads tracks when running trains up or down Copetown hill and of course loving photos like yours.
I do remember being stopped near Dundas and seeing a trail and people walking up from the track area to the top
Definitely less on the one sideroad that most people used to access the shortcut onto the trail. It would cut about 10 minutes off the hike to get to the peak. There is a trail that goes down to where the Dundas Station was also…but I think that is trespassing to access it.
Good to know. Thx for the info. I do remember people just walking across the Dundas Sub just to hike up the trail.
I should be like you and use my drone more often. I got a Mavic Pro 2 yrs ago but have hardly used it for photography
I used to park along Highway 8 by the bridge and walk up to where the old station was…no issues…that was 2017. Now is probably a different story.
The York Rd access was a nice location after CN had done some shoring up along there and all the foliage was removed. It still looks rather open in this location save for all those bloody thorn bushes on the slope near the bridge. I gave up trying to remove them and as a result, not a place to shoot any more.
