![Did I hear a request for Lac La Biche? Here is a weeks worth and it will help tie some of my photos together. To start, quite awhile ago I posted an odd ball consist of the 9160, 9190 and 1081. This was a work extra heading out on Thursday, May 23rd at 9:30. Next, on Sunday the 26th, a unit train of 33 empties heads out with the 4602, 5578 and 5606. The next day Monday the 27th, another unit train heads out with the 5590, 9194, 9107 and 9159 as a cabhop at 8:30 (posted this just a few weeks ago). Later on Monday at 17:30, it is the return of the 5606, 5578, 9190 and 1081 with 34 sulphur loads (another odd consist). On Tuesday at 16:00 the 5590, 9194, 9107,and 9159 return with 50 loads. At 11:00 on Wednesday the 29th will be the photo I just posted of the 9159, 9194 and 9164 heading out with a bunch of empties. Later on Wednesday at 21:00, the Muskeg Mixed heads out with the 4332 and 4214. Which brings us to this photo, Friday the 31st at 11:30, with the 9164, 9194, 9159, 4332 and 9160 (way at the back). It is just sitting clear of the north connecting track switch at Egremont. Waiting for 836 to pass through Kerensky. They have 35 loads and caboose 79764. Later on Friday at 22:00, it is the return of the Muskeg Mixed with a single 4214. The only unit remaining up north was the 4602, from the 26th, and it snuck by at some point without my seeing it.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/CN-9164-200x150.jpg)

![Reading back through my notes for May/85, there had been almost every combination possible of F7's with themselves or GP'9s, also, GP38's, or, the 2 types of B units. Except an ABA consist, finally on the 29th, someone at the diesel shops put one together. Here it is, entering the south end of the connecting track at Kerensky with 35 empties, the time is 11:30. Busy lunch at Redwater, this ABA at 11:30, when returning to Redwater from Kerensky, the 1082, 1075 and 1081 (units for 584) are switching the elevators. Also, the units for 836 - 4294 & 4606, the jet fuel train, are parked in the siding with one one engine out of diesel fuel. They are trying to re-fuel it, but, could never get it restarted. Had to call out a new units. Loved days like this. :^)](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/CN-9159-200x150.jpg)

![The 5583, 5507 and 5501 have only 38 loads of sulphur behind them, 12 short of the typical 50 that 3 GP38's would bring back from up north. Still, the town is alive with the sound of diesels in the 8th notch and having just honked for the 1st big crossing, the process has started again for the crossing with the highway. Having a hill coming into town was great, you were able to see/hear the units getting a real workout. Caboose 79487 on the tailend, photo taken by Redwater picnic area at 16:00.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/CN-5583-200x150.jpg)

![Saturday at 10:30 and the regular crew was close to home. A few miles ahead will be Gibbons, the final town that might have some cars to pickup. The pair of GMD-1's up at the front had 20 hoppers in tow. Sunday's, for this crew was a day off, Monday's, saw them return with tanks of fuel for the air base. Photo taken at mile 23.8.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/CN-79836-04-200x150.jpg)

![Starting several months previous to this photo date, the unit trains of sulphur empties would, on occasion, bring a bunch of grain hoppers on the headend (biggie sized in this instance). Dropped off where??? I don't know, Lac La Biche maybe? This was a long train with the grain cars, the caboose has yet to appear away down there in the brown of hoppers and trees. The shadows are already very long for 14:00 in the afternoon, amazing weather for December, no snow. Caboose 79605 at the rear.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/CN-4232-200x150.jpg)

![The wheat symbol on the first box gives away this train. They had a quite a bunch of them too, 20 or more on the headend. Then a string of grain hoppers. That is the 4000 back there helping out. Not too uncommon, those rebuilds did turn up on occasion. Photo taken at mile 26.6, mid-afternoon.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/CN-4338-01-200x150.jpg)

![As 836 arrives in Redwater to switch the culvert plant, first up on the train is an unusual car in the form of C.R.C.S. 2. The initials are for Colonist Railcar Society. From the 1987 CTG, this sleeper came from the CPR (named Tracy) and was built in 1931. A quick look turned up that at one time, it seems, there was an effort to restore some of these colonist cars. Not exactly sure what happened over the next several years from this date to #2. There is a photo of it from 2011 at Stettler Alberta on the Alberta Prairie Railway, in CNR green, black and gold, but, wearing it's old CPR name Tracy. A very nice combination. In this photo, the units have picked up the empty gon at the culvert plant and are now pulling the train towards Redwater. Going to Redwater was all #2 got for an outing. The crew parked her in the siding and when returning at lunch the next day from eastern Alberta, the sleeper was taken back to Edmonton.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/CRCS-2-200x150.jpg)

![836 was a unit train of fuel tanks on this day, 14 in total. Caboose 79505 on the tail end. The train is passing the new mile 34 signpost. The ditch re-hab worked out great, everything is much tidier and the power poles have all been removed. Perfect for later in the day photo's. The beetle in behind is the 9102.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/CN-9167-05-200x150.jpg)

![When returning from eastern Alberta, the grain extra at Kerensky would have to make a stop to get the south connecting track switch and then line it back to normal after having passed it. Not certain exactly when, but, shortly after this photo time, a spring switch was installed so that returning trains from the Coronado could trail through the switch without stopping. In this photo, the tailend brakeman has only moments before given the signal that the switch is lined and the engineman is slowly getting the train of grain on the move as it negotiates the big curve that will take it south and down to cross the Redwater river.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/CN-4285-200x150.jpg)

![Before returning back to Redwater on a visit to Edmonton, I took a quick look at the CP South Ed. diesel shops and found this. I am putting this photo in connection with Jacob's Agincourt Diesel Shop post from Jan/88. He mentioned the ATSF 3600, which brought me to this picture from the summer of 1987. The 3600 is paired with CP 3101. Behind are another pair the 3012 with an unknown GP38. To the left is CP 1564. SF 3600 has the name Argentine placed between the F and the 62/15 on the side of the frame. If there is a favourable way to have cars parked in front of the units, I hope this is it. :^)](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/ATSF-3600-200x150.jpg)

![Only a moderate train of hoppers keeps these 2 units working, but not hard, up the hill from the river. I am almost at the same spot as my last photo, on the other side of the tracks this time with the sun in the west sky. By this date, flags were no longer used, sometimes the class lights would be lit. On the happy side, all the doors are closed.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/CN-9173-2-200x150.jpg)

It is just after 11:00 and it was another beautiful Fall day. A few days after this, the 9173 will lead the 5513, bringing loaded hoppers home in the evening.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/CN-9173-1-200x150.jpg)
