![Thank goodness for the skimpiest shred of notes, a date and some info is better than zip and for wives who have kept negatives in some whatever box in the back 40 of the basement. Spare time created by viral measures allowed for these things to come together in the last few weeks. With the north end of Egremont as a backdrop, the 4607, 9175, 9194 and 9164 are taking 40 empty hoppers to Waterways. Cab 79772 is tagging along at the end. Of interest is the 9194 having black numbers on a white background, the only re-built F stenciled this way and only on this one side. Photo taken at 8:30 using Kodak 100asa film. I honestly thought these negs were goners, glad they weathered sitting in a box all this time. :-)](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/CN-46071-200x150.jpg)

![Keeping the 4713 theme going, here it is bringing empty jet fuel tanks and a few loads of grain back to Edmonton. This thirty plus years earlier photo shows it looking pretty filthy and in need of the wash rack. Rob Smith's much earlier photo of it got me to scan a slide from the only instance I shot of it (lots of 5513's though), but never posted. Kevin Flood's post got me scratching my head, with Jason's post today I couldn't resist. Picture location is at a farm crossing by mile 39.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/CN-4713-200x150.jpg)

![A cab hop headed due north here, destination will be Waterways to pickup 50 loads of sulphur and return to Edmonton. The 5533 in the black noodle paint was a rare visitor, this being my only time taking photos of it. To connect to my last post of the 1082 in 1985 on the abandoned Lac La Biche Sub. Behind the 5579, you can see ammonia tanks now stored on the old abandoned track. In 1985 they stored cars here twice, springtime with flats (the 1082) and covered hoppers in the fall, which returned from storage in October back to Edmonton (an older previous post of mine with the 1069). The ammonia tanks will return in the fall of 86 and I believe they never stored cars here again. I will not be much longer until the old 60lb rail was removed. My photo of the 1082 is approx. 2km west of this spot, down the track with the tanks on it. I added GPS as you can still see where the old tracks ran in the aerial photos. Time of this photo, 8:30 on the north end of the connecting track, shot with Kodak 100ASA film.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/CN-5579-200x150.jpg)

![I heard this train pass through Redwater and it is into the car and head for Kerensky. When the 1082 arrives at Kerensky, they hold up at the south connecting track switch, getting further orders to proceed I assumed. While waiting, I notice the work train coming from the north and taking the siding at Egremont. It had been working in the area the last few days. This was making sense now, the 1082 was waiting for the work extra. I zip over to photo the work extra and end up talking with the brakeman. He tells me the 1082 is here to take empty flats stored on the abandoned portion of the Lac La Biche Sub. The army needs 40 to move equipment. A huge string of flats had already taken out a few weeks earlier, which would mean 1000's to reach the remaining cars on the light 60lb. rail. Well, it is off to catch up with the 1082, a rare opportunity has presented itself, to photo ex-NAR 1000's back on home rails. Here they are about 2km west of the north connecting track switch. The flanger clearance sign is for range road 221, which is just behind me. Not much further to go to couple on. In short time they had their cars and were headed back for Edmonton.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/CN-1082-200x150.jpg)

![This photo goes with the one I posted earlier of the 9179. Having gathered up the loads, they are now headed out of the elevator track and will tie back onto the train. The total lack of a stripe along the bottom gives this unit a very distinctive look.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/CN-9179-200x150.jpg)

![With less than a year until they close the track through the Fort, on this sunny day I brought the camera when we went shopping. Unlike my other earlier post of the station from Sept. 87 (Last train through the Fort day), the semaphore has arms here. Set at caution for a westward train. Picking up a 19Y order maybe? This is certainly the style of station I am used to seeing here in western Canada. Glad I brought the camera, for being situated in a busy area (wires etc.), I'm happy with the moment I captured of this station in its final days. Shot with Kodak 100 ASA print film.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/FortStn-01-200x150.jpg)

![The 5166 and 5143 have just come out of a hole in the wall onto a short bridge. There is only 5.5 miles left to Boston Bar and the crew will enjoy a break waiting for their return ride to Kamloops. The mile board at the tunnel exit reads 120. Pretty certain of the year, month could be June or July.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/CN-5166-200x150.jpg)

![I was well prepared for this day, just wish there could have been brighter illumination. This will be the "Last Run" of No. 91 from Edmonton to Waterways. I thought it was a nice touch by CN to have the 5587 as leader. Following behind is Baggage 7856, Coach's 5099 & 5095, Cab 79881 at the rear. It was a great little train while it lasted, I feel very fortunate to have had it pass through our town. Photo taken a few miles west of Redwater, just after lunch.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/CN-5587-1-200x150.jpg)

![A tribute to my co-pilot who rode with me for a few years (or at least until he was old enough for grade 1). He likes trains as much as his Dad. Holding a squirt gun joke camera, converted into easier working toy camera. Always kept in the car ready for action (that's the chase VW). Thanks for making those waits on the side of the road more enjoyable by throwing rocks, flying kites, catching snakes, etc. :-)](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Grain-cars-200x150.jpg)

![Early morning photo of the Redwater river trestle from a different angle. The sulphur unit trains for years ran there and back with just open top hoppers. Starting around 88, they would also occasionally bring a short string of grain hoppers on the headend. With it being the middle of August the river is down to a trickle. Just enough for a small reflection. You can sure tell the 4782 just had its re-numbering done.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/CN-4763-200x150.jpg)

![The shortest day of the year was just over a week away and you can sure tell. Only 15:00 and already it was low sun time in the western sky. The 4214, 4285, and 4232 have 40 empty hoppers and cab 79213 for a train today. They will return tomorrow night at 23:00, giving the town of Redwater a rumbling aural display of 3 GP9's climbing the hill on a cold winters night. Photo taken at a farm crossing about 3.5 miles north of Egremont.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/CN-4214-200x150.jpg)

![This is the promised baggage car from the auxiliary train I posted a short while back. Checking my 1989 CTG, it is reported to have been built in 1950 by NSC. Here, 38 years later, it is looking immaculate. I don't know when it was converted to Aux. Gen/Comm car 57958, it was obviously enjoying life in its new role, as it is very well cared for (nice yellow trim). Checking my other posted photo and the roof line in this picture, that seems to be the diesel with generator at this end (flapper on exhaust). The other various vents and chimneys??? All the equipment, minus a coach, is on the way back home to Calder yard. Photo taken south of Gibbons at 9:15.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/CN-57958-200x150.jpg)

![The crew of the 8800 are turning their units on the wye at Bretville Jct. After stopping, getting lined up and a light, they will proceed to Clover Bar yard. Waiting in the distance, on the other side of the river at Bailey, is a lumber train. After the lumber train departs, an IM from the Camrose Sub. arrives and continues to Walker yard. Within minutes, another east bound of empty hoppers on the Wainwright Sub. goes by. It was early on a Sunday and already it was shaping up to be a busy morning.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/CN-8800-200x150.jpg)

![Here is a 31 and a half year contrast with Jason Noe's recent post of the 4784. In this photo, it has only in the last few weeks been renumbered. It's stablemate following is still waiting for the 47's. The units are looking very good for 15 years old. Also, as in Jason's picture, there is a GP9 helping out in the rear. A flatcar with wooden ramps heads up an otherwise solid train of empty hoppers.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/CN-4784-200x150.jpg)

![Grain loads heading back to Edmonton on a cloudy Saturday morning. The 4330, 4350 and 4351 have 40 grain hoppers cruising at track speed as they come around the corner which will lead to the bustling hamlet of Coronado. The 3 units are numbered very close together, yet, only the one has spark arrestors. It seems having them is at the discretion of the fellow putting them back on after maintenance.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/CN-4330-200x150.jpg)

![These 3 were working hard getting their loaded train up the hill from the Redwater river. The first few cars are work train cars and likely will be set out somewhere before arriving at Calder yard. Evening at the CN parking lot with the sun out was a great place for rail action.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/CN-4609-200x150.jpg)

![I do not have many photos that show the doors open on the elevators, as well as able to see right through, as in this case. This is also one of the few pictures where I included the Redwater section shack in the photo. 584 is lead today by the 1077, 1069 and 1078, with cab 79836 bringing up the rear. The marks of unloading molten sulphur tanks in the early 80's into tank trucks is still very evident. The elevator track would have a number of tanks spotted for offloading on occasion. By 1983/84 this came to an end and the only sulphur traffic that remained was the bright yellow chips in the open hoppers passing by from Fort McMurray.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/CN-1077-1-200x150.jpg)

![In the very last glow of the day, the Muskeg Mixed enters the curve to Kerensky where it will leave the Coronado Sub. and continue north on the Lac La Biche Sub. That is the 9192 trailing and the tailend cars consisted of Baggage 7856, Coach 5095 and CN caboose 79881. I see from my notes, this was shot at f/2 and 1/250th. Photo taken just after 20:00.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/CN-9167-200x150.jpg)

![The 4602, 9105 and 9192 have the usual 35 loads in tow. 3 GP38's can bring 50 loads back to Edmonton. The train has just crested the hill up from the Redwater river. It will now slowly descend over the next few miles to cross the Sturgeon river just before arriving at Gibbons. IMO, the zebra painted ex-NAR units looked their best when working with b-units.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/CN-4602-200x150.jpg)
