![No.2 is making a short stop at 10:30 in Lake Louise before continuing on to Calgary. This is the way I like to remember passenger trains, with some steam seeping from various spots. Not sure I would have this unit on the point, it is looking none to proud.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/VIA-6557-200x150.jpg)

![I first saw these engines going through Redwater cabhop with caboose 79669 at 10:30. There was a purpose of sending out 2 light GMD-1's today. Just 2 days earlier, I had watched a huge string of empty CN hoppers, headed for Edmonton, pass through Redwater (powered by GP38's). The hoppers were stored on the abandoned portion of the Lac La Biche Sub., which is accessed at Egremont. To now reach the remaining hoppers, ten hundreds will be needed on the old light rail. Here is the crew at 12:30, a few miles west of Redwater, with the last 65 CN hoppers en-route to Edmonton. It was a big looking train for 2 1000's, but 65 roller bearing empties shouldn't be much of a task. That is the 1079, ex NAR 302 Chief MoosToos, in behind. The new CN paint job still looking pretty fresh.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/CN-1069-200x150.jpg)

![A photo showing the tailend cars next to NAR tank 16025 (I just recently posted). They are, baggage cars 7855 and 7856, coach 5099 and caboose 79101. Except for the coach, the others are ex-NAR cars. You can see in the ditch that good things are about to come. All the poles have been cut and are ready for removal. Next, the ditchline will be regraded. Leaving me, at that time, with one of the best photo locations in the Redwater area. Line rehab. has its advantages. Yay!](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/MM-Cars-200x150.jpg)

![A recent post brought to mind this photo I took back in 1986. I think the time was around 20:00 on this evening when the Mixed train passed through Redwater. It was this car next to the coaches that sent me out to take pictures (besides the sun being out :-) ). On a few occasions, old cars like this were sent north to serve some purpose. I also noted on a couple of occasions, when returning home, some of these cars ended up at the car recycling facility, located just north of Edmonton on the Coronado Sub. I did check, not deeply extensive but looked, could not find any info for some history. The word FUEL is probably what the car was still being used for. Of interest, on the leading wheel, on the rear truck, the side of the wheel next to the axle can be seen. Looking carefully, you can see it has the curved fins to aid in cooling. Tonight's Muskeg Mixed consisted of 5585 and 5580 (GP38's) up front, behind tank 16025 is baggage cars 7855 and 7856 with coach 5099 and ex-NAR caboose 79101. Shot at mile 34. One last oddity, the flat car and tank 16025 both have upright brake wheels, don't see that to often anymore.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/NAR-16025-200x150.jpg)

![While an IM passes in the background, the 7524, 4767 and 9513, with tailend man perched and watching, shove a bunch of gondolas down to AltaSteel. Many of the yard movements I have watched, still require a person at each end. In addition, 3 on a crew is not unusual either on those instances (2 were at the front here).](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/CN-7524-200x150.jpg)

![Another interesting piece of equipment I found at Boston Bar was this old tender. The last digit in the number 52140 is hard to make out and I'm guessing it may be a zero. It is faded but it still has the green block Canadian National. It is a mystery to me what it was used for. Probably still had some water carrying ability but what is the little cabin at the back about? Thin exhaust stack out the roof and a couple of hefty cables at this end. At least it was enjoying a second life at this time. Had a quick look and found no info to help with some history. I cannot guess as to what type of steamer this little tender will have been attached to in the past.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/CN-Tender-200x150.jpg)

![Wearing only its second paint scheme, the 3049 does not have the fresh look anymore like the 2007 photos I just perused of it on the CPR diesel roster website. Ex SOO 4424 is trailing. ![4436km to Montreal and only 202km from Vancouver states the Boston Bar sign. Boston Bar was, still is, a big deal for me. As a kid, on summer train trips to the coast, when you stopped in Boston Bar, you knew it was not much longer to Vancouver. When I was older, we took camping trips to the coast and still my Dad would stop in to watch trains at Boston Bar. Besides the many other various spots on the way. Although my Dad spent his life working at CN, he never tired of watching rail action either. Here in 1986, and other times I stopped in through the 80's, wandering around taking photo's was no big deal. Keeping clear of the tracks and equipment usually allowed the taking of a number of photo's without bother.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/CN-Boston-Bar-200x150.jpg)

![Steve Young mentioned in a post of his recently about a training facility with an old CN caboose up on a high structure. Last summer I happened to be at this spot for an afternoon photo of this caboose. Still standing after many years, the business that used this for safety training is gone and caboose plus structure was/is for sale, the last I heard.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/CN-79617-200x150.jpg)

![I was looking at a recent post by Myles Roach, it shows the 4784 and 4785 at Blenheim. Scratching my head and wondering if there is anything in my collection to contrast with the 4784, I came up with this odd find on my first look. Here we find the 5584 and 5585 just west of Redwater with a string of grain empties (without graffiti I might add). This time showing the units from the other side. Just weird finding the same 2 units right on the first search.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/CN-5584-200x150.jpg)

![Michael Berry just recently posted a photo showing the 4700, which I have not seen personally in some length of time. For a little time contrast, here is the same unit in 1986. These 2 make for an interesting pair, noodle vs Zebra and consecutively numbered. The 5501, in this photo, only recently received it's stripes in the last 1 or 2 years. I will not photo the 5500 in stripes until April of 1988. To only a few months later in July to be renumbered 4700. This photo taken just east of this subdivisions namesake, Coronado, at 11:00 with a train of grain loads headed for Calder.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/CN-5500-200x150.jpg)

![The 2837 is bringing up the rear of the oil train empties as it passes over the east leg of the wye at Bretville Jct. It's destination of Kinder Morgan is only a couple of miles south down the Camrose Sub. The main subject is the bridge span being passed over. It still sports an old CN logo (with "courtesy and service") and the clearance is reported in feet and inches. Myself, I can remember seeing this span back in the seventies when coming home from Ft. Sask. Reading on the CNRHA website, which has some photos and info on this and other bridges like this one, it can probably be safe to say this span has been here since the early sixties (before the change to the CN noodle era). As can be seen, the other spans have been changed on the west bound lane of the Yellowhead Hwy. How much longer till this one needs replacing? I love the wooden fence along the side.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/CN-bridge-200x150.jpg)

![One more set of photos from Redwater, this time located at the Redwater river trestle. Mother nature must have known Christmas was coming this season. There was frost on the trees right into the New Year. This short lived passenger train to Fort McMurray consisted of baggage car 7857 and coach 5099 today. It passed through town just after lunch every Monday, until discontinued. (The 5587 was renumbered to 4787).](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/CN-79881-200x150.jpg)

![One more set of photos from Redwater, this time located at the Redwater river trestle. The train is the same as in my previous 2018 SD40 photo. Not much has changed in 32 years. Overhead powerlines are gone, trees have grown or been cut, barrels are removed from the trestle. Oh Yeah, and no caboose :-).](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/CN-Redwater-200x150.jpg)

![An out of town crew is bringing a train into CP Clover Bar yard. They will yard the train, put the 8136, 9813 and 8779 to the shop track and then pile into the waiting taxi to take them to breakfast and bed (breakfast I'm assuming, bed for sure :-D).](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/CP-8136-200x150.jpg)

![A photo to go with my last post. Almost the same spot, but, 34 years earlier. In my 2019 photo, I am closer to where the hoppers are and a little further away from the track. No SD40's allowed back then, the big power in 85 were the GP38's. Speaking of 85 and Eric Mays recent post and mention of 80lb rail. The mailine here is 85lb rail and the elevator track in the foreground is 60lb spaghetti rail. Hefty stuff :-) In this photo the 1078, 1069 and 1075 are passing through Redwater at 11:00 and headed for the air base at Cold Lake.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/CN-1078-200x150.jpg)

![Last July I wandered out to Redwater and caught a few photos of the Waterways train. It is headed up by the 5293, 5321 and 5381. There is something real familiar about this curve, I feel like I have seen GMD-1's coming around this same corner. :-)](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/CN-5293-200x150.jpg)

![If I have read the VIA schedules properly, this train was to have departed at 19:50 on Saturday and here it is 7:30 Sunday, making No.2 approx. 11½ hours late. You can see an intermodal curving west around the bend in the distance. It was a nice meet between these two, the tailend no sooner was to clear and No.2 came around the corner, only having to slow for a moment waiting for a light to continue. The 6435 is in behind with 21 cars making up the train.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/VIA-6443-200x150.jpg)
